Our Wedding

I met Emma when I was 19 and I fell in love with her when I was 22. When I was a sophomore at USC, I was leading Young Life at Blythewood High School, and Emma got placed on my team. It was not love at first sight. We spent several years leading together and building a really genuine and fun friendship. We were not secretly flirting, there was no will they/won't they, we were just best friends. By the end of my senior year, I was beginning to realize that my feelings for Emma had become romantic and impossible to ignorable. That is something that scared me a lot. I spent a really long time praying that my feelings would change or that I would feel differently, but that did not happen. We grew closer and closer and spent some really sweet time together. After I graduated college I went on Young Life staff in Gaston County, NC, and I missed her more than I had ever missed anyone before. We stayed in touch because she was longing for me as well, which is cool. We went to the wedding of a mutual friend (Lily Ann and Michael if you guys are reading this) and we were side by side all night. After the wedding, we hung out in a car together for around 8 hours, until 6 in the morning. Classic best friend stuff! At the end of that 6 hours, I asked her on a date, because I am not stupid. Believe it or not she said yes! The following week we went on the best date that anyone has ever been on. It was obvious to me that I had just gone on my first date with my wife. It was not as obvious to her I don't think but she came around after a week or two. That was the craziest day of my life! Then we dated for like 10 months and then I proposed on the tandem bike. We never stopped being best friends. I told her I was in love with her the day we started dating and I have not stopped since then. After about 5 or 6 dates I started working on the ring. One day, I even held a snail. Now we get to get married! Pretty awesome.
