Barberry Farms is located at 353 Boston Post Road in Madison, Connecticut. It's approximately 100 miles north of New York City, but don't let that fool you. On a Friday afternoon in the summer, the drive can take several hours so we highly recommend you set out by noon to arrive early enough to get a taste of Madison's charms – from restaurants to beaches – and check in to your hotel to freshen up for the wedding. For those coming to the wedding by car, there will be valet parking at the farm.
Madison is a lovely relaxed Connecticut village on Long Island Sound, surrounded by farms, country roads, trails, beaches and marshes. There's a lot to do in Madison – birding, fishing, biking, hiking, swimming or reading by the water. It's an early American historic town with interesting craft and antique shops and restaurants. We hope you'll come early and enjoy a weekend getaway while celebrating with us.
Please note there are several weddings in and around Madison on the July 31 weekend with guests looking for lodgings so if you are planning on coming book your rooms early. We've held rooms in the top three locations listed below for Thursday 7/30, and Friday 7/31. Please book early, as we will have to release holds by six weeks before the wedding date.
We have 8 rooms on hold please contact Victoria and use the reference Buxton-Mitchel Wedding.
Rooms range from $137.50 to $232.50
2 miles to Barberry Hill Farm
If you are flying into JFK or Laguardia Airport, it is fairly easy to take public transportation up to Madison, CT. However, it is always nice to rent a car and be able to get around town.
BY TRAIN... The trip takes just under 3 hours from New York Penn Station on Amtrak (Link) to Shore Line East (Link) (transfer at New Haven Union Station) and about 3 hours and 20 minutes from Grand Central Station on the New Haven Line (Link) to Shore Line East (Link) (transfer at Stamford).
BY CAR...
On a Friday afternoon in the summer, the drive can take several hours. Google maps will tell you that I-95 is the most direct route, but we recommend you take the Merritt Parkway for as much of the drive as possible and set out by 1 p.m at the latest. You can get traffic reports at 10 minute intervals on the AM band 880 at 12:08, 12:18, etc. or 1010 at 12:01, 12:11, etc.
FROM Manhattan...
Our recommendation: Take the Henry Hudson Parkway North, which becomes the Saw Mill River Parkway, to Exit 4 for the Cross County Parkway towards the Hutchinson River Parkway, which becomes the Merritt Parkway (Route 15) once you cross the CT state line. You'll be on the Merritt for about 58 miles. Look for Exit 54/Daniel S. Wasson Connector towards Milford. Take that road and merge onto I-95 North for about 18 miles to Exit 59 for Goose Lane. Turn right onto Goose lane. Take the first left onto US1N/Boston Post Road about 2.6 miles. Turn left onto Stony Lane and you will see Barberry Farm on your left at 353 Boston Post Road. The town of Madison is another mile or so up the road, beyond the farm.
FROM North Jersey...
Take the Tappan Zee Bridge towards Westchester and follow signs for 287/White Plains. Then look for Exit 9N for the Hutchinson River Parkway North, which becomes the Merritt Parkway (Route 15) once you cross into CT. Stay on the Merritt for approx. 58 miles to Exit 54/Daniel S.
FLYING...
FROM NY/NJ airports (LaGuardia (LGA), Kennedy (JFK) or Newark (EWR)...
We recommend you rent a car and, and follow the driving directions listed above. Please start your ride a couple of hours before rush hour, ideally by 2 p.m. at the latest on Thursday or 1 p.m. on Friday. Alternately, you can travel into NYC and catch a train from either Penn Station or Grand Central (add links).
FROM Bradley International Airport (BDL) outside of Hartfort, CT...
Bradley is a nice alternate, an international airport with more flights options than New Haven. It's about 56 miles away, less drive time, and somewhat less congested roadways. Car rentals at the airport and Google maps should serve you well. This may be more cost/time effective than flying into the NYC area.
FROM Tweed New Haven (HVN) Regional Airport...
If you would rather fly directly to the Madison, CT area, the Tweed New Haven Airport is a good option, just 16 miles from Madison. You can catch a taxi to Madison from there.
