March 18, 2011 - Key West, Florida
Whitney was attending an all-girls Spring Break trip as a getaway from studying and final exams. Greg was also enjoying some time away from the college life and spending one last guy's week away with his friend, Bobby, who was about to deploy to Iraq. As Greg was walking up the staircase to scope out the second floor of Key West's most popular bar, Durty Harry's, he happened to look back down the staircase to find Whitney, looking up at him. Their eyes met and what started as a simple "hello", became a night of laughter and dancing they'd never forget.
The following night would be their last as Whitney was headed back to Tampa where she attended the University of South Florida, and Greg was headed back home to Massachusetts. What seemed to be a short-term find, ended up being so much more. They had no idea what else was in store.
March 20, 2011 - December 2011
After their first meeting in Key West, Whitney and Greg took the next eight months to get to know one another, though they were nearly 1500 miles apart. Long-distance phone calls, hours on Skype, and visiting one another once a month was what they grew to know as their relationship; that is, until Greg took a leap of faith and brought the relationship to the next level. Greg packed his bags (and pup) and headed South to Jacksonville, Florida in December of 2011, saying goodbye to his hometown and the life he had known for 22 years. You see, Whitney was soon to graduate college and head back home to Jacksonville. Once she did, again, the rest was history.
January 1, 2016
After Greg's move to Jacksonville in 2011, their relationship grew from young love to planning a life with one another. Yet, there was still one thing that needed to happen.
It was New Year's Eve of 2015, and while at a friend's party surrounded by loved ones, at the countdown second of one, Greg knelt on one knee and asked Whitney to spend the rest of her life with him. What was a moment of complete shock also turned into a moment of overwhelming love and support by those in attendance. A relationship four years in the making was now just the beginning of the rest of their lives. Needless to say, the evening was one way for them to RING in the New Year.
Below is a video of their proposal. Do yourself a favor and fast forward to the 2:30 mark as filming began a few minutes before the proposal. :)
