How We Met

Growing up, Whitney played viola, and still does to this day. Her private music teacher, Laura, would routinely ask for her to dog and house sit during summer months while she and her family traveled the world. On August 3, 2010, Whitney was on her way home from rehearsal with the Susqehanna Symphony, on her way to Laura's house, to start a week long house sitting adventure. It was late, around 10pm, but Whitney decided to stop at ShopRite to get a few things to eat for the week. When she came out from getting groceries, her, for lack of a better term, P.O.S. Ford Escort would not start.

In prior years of house sitting, Whitney had met the neighbor's son, Chris, and he was the only person she knew in town, so she called and asked for help. Luckily, Chris was working in the city, but knew his brother Tim, would be in the area, and asked him to lend a hand. When Tim pulled up to Whitney's car, she rolled down her window just a few inches, and turned to him and said "are you my knight in shining armor?"

For the next twenty to thirty minutes, Tim jumped Whitney's car multiple times just enough to get it to start and then die again as she tried to drive away. They finally gave up and he pushed the car into a parking spot, and Tim drove her back to Laura's house. The rest is history.

It turns out the universe had a bigger plan that day, than just a guy helping a girl with her broken down car.

The Proposal

Picture of The Proposal

Like everything else in Tim and Whitney's relationship, the proposal did not go as smoothly as planned, but after a few tries, it finally worked out perfectly.

Tim had always said he would propose when Whitney was done all of her schooling. On the last day of her residency, he planned her dream proposal, (although the details are still kept secret). As the day got closer, she still had no idea, but the opportunity arose, for her to go on a business trip, fully paid for, with one of her closest friends, Mandy. Naturally, she was not about to pass up a free girls week in Boston! Of course, that trip also fell on the day Tim was planning to propose. Over the next few weeks, Tim attempted to subtly talk Whitney out of this trip, but she didn't understand why his love for the Yankees was so strong that he didn't want her to go to Boston! It's just a baseball team!!

Luckily, a few weeks later, Whitney and Tim were planning a trip to Charleston, South Carolina, which is also where they had their first vacation together. Tim booked an Airbnb downtown, and began planning a second attempt at proposing. Just two days prior to leaving, Tim received an email that the house connecting to the Airbnb had a fire, and damaged the house they were to stay in. At this point, Tim booked a hotel, where they gave him the biggest, best suite, overlooking the restaurant where Tim and Whitney ate out during their first trip to Charleston. That restaurant, Husk, is also where Tim took Whitney on July 12, 2016, to have dinner. Looking back, the fact that Tim wore long pants on a porch in 95 degree weather, should have been her first clue. After dinner, Tim and Whitney decided to take a walk to their favorite park in Charleston, Waterfront Park. There are beautiful trees creating archways over cobblestone streets, that lead to a fountain shaped like a pineapple. Tim asked Whitney to sit with him on a bench in front of the fountain. It was on that bench he got down on one knee (on rocks, I might add) and proposed to Whitney. Of course, she said yes!
