Philip and I met through mutual friends from the Single Young Adults group at Second Baptist Church. We both attended small group Bible study and were a part of the community for 2 years before we even met! Taylor Ferguson (groomsman) and his girlfriend at the time Aly (Matron of Honor) started a group within the class who got together once a month to try different restaurants around town- appropriately named the Houston Restaurant Tour. The Restaurant Tour made a stop at Taste of Texas in September of 2021 and we ended up at the same table - the handsome athletic attorney who laughed at my jokes definitely caught my eye! We didn't talk again until the next Restaurant Tour stop in October 2021 at Bravery Chef Hall. There we struck up a one on one conversation and I was distinctly caught off guard by how easy and fun it was. Aly and Taylor were both there that night and describe us as being like magnets drawn to each other. In December I had a white elephant with some friends from Second, and invited Philip. The party got delayed as COVID made its rounds, but he reached out to check on me and see if he could bring medicine or food. I would tell you that's just how kind and caring he is, but he would tell you there were ulterior motives to strike up a new conversation! The party eventually happened a few weeks later, followed by two stepping at the local country bar. We danced the night away and had a great time with friends. When we got back to my apartment, Philip asked if he could stay a bit to help clean up. It was already late, but we ended up talking for hours in my kitchen. We shared some of the struggles we had endured over the years, and bonded over our mutual determination to find beauty in the trials of life. A few weeks passed, and in January 2022 Philip slid in my DMs on Instagram - LOL. We started chatting back and forth and the friendship continued to progress. The weekend came and we ran into each other at a mutual friend's birthday party and were pretty much inseparable the whole night. The next day, Philip asked me on our first date - a walk after church. That upcoming Saturday we went to the Houston Zoo and laughed over dumb jokes about all the animals. He asked to make things official that day as we shared a romantic lunch of Canes. The rest is history from there! In the photo gallery you'll see some of our favorite memories: our first picture together that night at the birthday party, the zoo day with the giraffes, and many trips across the nation with friends and family! We love going to Astros games, pool days in the summer, exploring the Houston food scene, and holidays and events around town. Our love story was a very slow burn at first, but was formed on the foundation of friendship - both with each other and shared community. We are so blessed to have many family and friends be a part of our story and have a front row seat as we build our lives together. We can't thank you enough for being a part of our special day and can't wait to celebrate with everyone in September!

Aly and I met through Second Baptist after her and Taylor started dating. We have gone on many double dates with them and bonded over our mutual love of the Houston food scene! She has become a close confidant and friend through many days at the nail salon, Sundays at church, and doing life together!

Aly Ferguson

Maryssa and I have been friends for 7 years now! We met through Accounting class Sophmore year where I recognized her from Zeta and asked to sit next to her. We bonded over the accounting core and were partners for many group projects. She quickly became my go to for sorority events and as close to a sister as I've ever had. When we lost my brother in 2020, Maryssa drove from Killeen to be there for the funeral. Although we now live several states away, we keep in touch almost daily and make every effort to get together at least once a year.

Caroline and I are friends through Second Baptist where we were in the singles ministry for over a year. We bonded over memories of Baylor (although we never met during our time there). I was drawn to her enthusiasm for life and how she loves those around her whole heartedly. She is a woman of faith and is always there when I need prayer or a listening ear.

Melanie is my longest running friend with no competition! Our moms were roommates in college and we happen to be born 6 weeks apart. We have grown up together, gone on joint family vacations, and grabbed dinner in college station many times on my way to Waco.

Kathryn and I met through the single young adults ministry at Second Baptist. I was immediately drawn to how intentional she is with friendships and her optimistic perspective on life. She is one of the few people I know who still writes handwritten cards and sends them to those she cares about for every holiday. She is the biggest cheerleader for those she cares about.

Leslee and I have been friends for over 8 years! We met freshman year of college through mutual friends and I immediately knew she'd become my ride or die. She is so kind, caring and fun. I can always count on her for fashion advice and encouragement. Although we now live hours away we stay in touch!

Brittany and I met through small group at Second. She is a ray of sunshine and always brightens my day whenever we catch up.

Paige was my adopted little in Zeta and we're now neighbors in Houston. She is so fun and my biggest cheerleader. I can always count on her to show up for me

Christina is Philips sister and my future sister in law! Since the first time I met Philips family she has made me feel welcome and at home with the group. It has been so fun spending holidays and birthdays with her and the rest of the family, and I can’t wait for many more to come!

Lauren is Philips sister in law and my future sister in law! She is so welcoming and a great cook for family gatherings. My favorite memory of Lauren is when Philip and I double dated with her and William. The brothers had such an easy banter we weren’t sure who was accompanying whom! It has been such fun seeing her and William get married last year and now almost being Berzins together!
