Have you heard of the red string theory? It states that a red string connects two soulmates who were destined to meet. Who would have thought that a red string would connect a Dodger fan to a Giants fan? Whittany, a SoCal Dodgers fan and Joshua, a NorCal Giants fan both attended Arizona State University in 2011 where they were studying towards a degree in Biological Sciences. That year, ASU had an enrollment of 59,794 freshman students on the Tempe campus. Of those freshman, 2,616 were in The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, with 520 of those students working towards a life sciences degree. The odds of meeting slowly increased from 0.001761% to 0.03821% to finally 0.1919%. In October 2011, both Whittany's dad, Tom, and Joshua's dad, Jonathan, attended a Family Weekend breakfast, where they had sat the parents at tables by state and Tom met Jonathan. Upon sitting down at the table, Tom introduced Whittany to Jonathan, where he proceeded to ask her if she'd ever met his son, Joshua, and pulled out a bunch of photos from his wallet. Unfortunately with 520 freshman studying Life Sciences, they hadn't met, at least not yet. They eventually first met in January 2012 when Whittany moved from across campus to the same dorm floor as some of her friends where Joshua was also living. Whittany first noticed Joshua when she was eating in the dining hall and her roommate at the time looked up and said, "There goes Josh and his dad." From there, Whittany recognized his dad and had a full circle moment. They ended up introducing themselves through mutual friends and ended up realizing they had shared classes. The couple started dating on March 30, 2012 and have grown up together in their adulthood, shaping each other in different ways for the better. They share their love of many different sports, trying different foods, travel, and Charli. We would be amiss if we didn't mention that in September 2014, Josh and Whitt adopted a long boy, Siamese cat named Charli (Josh's first experience with a pet of any sort). Aside from MANY trips back home to California, their first true vacation together was on a cruise to Alaska in 2019 which ended up being part of the inspiration for their goal of visiting all 50 states, but backwards from when each state joined the union. This year we will have visited Oklahoma (47). While there is still so much for us to experience, we are excited to experience it as a married couple and could not be more thankful for all the family and friend relationships that have supported and loved us over the years!
