WHY TIE THE KNOT IN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE?

We were inspired by a remarkable gift from William's aunt Nathalie...An intricately carved wooden cabinet, inscribed with

"1639 Robert Pierrepont Gertrude"

Our curiosity piqued, we learned that Robert's grandfather, Sir George Pierrepont (1510-1564), is William's 12x Great Grandfather!

Robert's Uncle, William (brother of Robert's father, Sir Henry, 1546-1616) was also born in Nottingham (b 1550).

William's Great-Grandson emigrated to Massachusetts, establishing a line of Pierreponts in the Colonies; a continuous line to Will and his family.

We subsequently discovered that Sir George and Robert were born at Holme Pierrepont Hall, and that Robert and Gertrude (1639), along with many other Pierrepont ancestors, are buried in the St. Edmunds Church, adjacent to Holme Pierrepont Hall.

The Pierrepont family has dwelled continuously on this land since the 1280s to present. The extant medieval part of the home (Hall) was built by Sir William Pierrepont (1486-1533) in the early 1500s, as was the oldest part of St. Edmund's Church.

We are delighted to be able to utilize this significant and unique setting for our wedding!
