Located in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, OdySea Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the Southwest, spanning 200,000 square feet. The two-level, state-of-the-art facility holds more than 2 million gallons of water and accommodates up to 10,000 visitors daily. With over 50 exhibits and 500 different species, there are more than 30,000 animals that call OdySea home.

The Arizona Museum of Natural History (AZMNH) is the premier natural history museum in Arizona. It is dedicated to inspiring wonder, respect, and understanding of the natural and cultural history of the Southwest.

The Museum is a place for family fun. Where else can you see a flash flood cascading down a three-story mountain inside a museum? See Tom the soft-shelled turtle and a live Gila monster. Experience a real territorial jail, pan for gold in the History Courtyard, and wend your way through the Lost Dutchman’s Mine. Check out the new special exhibitions and experience hands-on adventure for all ages in the Exploration Station. Bring a friend or family member of any age to the museum: there is always something new to discover.

Gilbert Riparian Observatory

The observatory houses a 16” Meade LX200R telescope which is mounted on a Paramount ME German equatorial mount controlled by The Sky Professional computer software for accurate tracking and GOTO operation. Also mounted on the main telescope is a 60mm Lunt solar telescope for viewing the sun in the hydrogen alpha spectrum. The rotating aluminum dome is from Observa-DOME Laboratories and measures 5 meters (16’ 4 1/2 “) in diameter. Something that visitors won’t see is the immense 10-foot steel reinforced concrete cube buried below the observatory floor that provides a firm base for the telescope mounting.

Originating with the ambitious vision of a dedicated philanthropist and other community leaders, the Phoenix Zoo has welcomed more than 43 million guests since 1962, fulfilling its mission of providing experiences that inspire people and motivate them to care for the natural world. Beginning in 1962 with Operation Oryx, one of the world’s most successful global wildlife conservation programs, it has become world-renowned for its contributions to the field of conservation science. Today, more than 7,000 Arabian oryx exist worldwide, setting a precedent for subsequent successful Phoenix Zoo conservation initiatives involving Black-footed ferrets, Chiricahua leopard frogs, narrow-headed garter snakes, thick-billed parrots, Mexican wolves, and many others.
