They say the strongest relationships are those that start in friendship. Grant and Yardley met freshman year of high school at Good Counsel and have been close friends ever since. Grant showed his interest early by being a devoted (and loud) cheerleader at Yardley's soccer games. Throughout high school, they shared the same group of friends and only became closer as the years went on. After graduation, both ended up in California, but with very different life choices. Yardley went to college in Santa Barbara and Grant joined the Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton. Yardley was lucky enough to see him before he started boot camp, but was not able to see him again until he returned home from Afghanistan. The two were reunited out in California again, but this time Yardley was traveling for work and Grant was able to sneak off base after deployment. Grant asked Yardley to attend his Marine Corps Ball in San Diego and the two had a blast. Unfortunately, Grant was off again on another deployment after that. They were reunited when Grant returned from Okinawa and Grant treated Yardley to an amazing trip to Laguna Beach where their first date was skydiving. Anyone who knows Yardley knows that she is deathly afraid of planes so she must really like this guy to jump out of one! They have been in love ever since. Grant finished out his five year contract as a Marine and moved to Arlington to be with Yardley. They talked about getting married and Yardley shared that she would prefer to not get engaged in front of people. Grant proposed in front of all of their high school friends on the beach Memorial Day in Dewey, Delaware. Grant has a tendency to know Yardley better than she knows herself and she was thrilled to be able to celebrate with all of her friends. It was the happiest day of their lives until October 21, 2017...
