Our Story

Yen and Clay

We first met on a triple date through our mutual friend Austin. At Iron Age Steak House, Yen and Lai (Austin’s wife) commented on how tall I was. When we got our seats and started talking, I loved how much Yen helped me to cook the steak and food. Apparently, she also loved how much I ate and that I was not a picky eater. I knew then that I liked this woman, because of how helpful she was.

Our first date together was at Cafe Intermezzo at the Avalon in Alpharetta, GA. We were able to talk more freely here, and she noticed how I was trying to eat slower than normal. Many of my friends and family know I struggle with eating slow. She didnt mind this, and I really appreciated it. We walked around the outdoor mall for more than an hour, talking and getting to know each other better. I remember thinking to myself, while listening to her, that I enjoyed her conversations and company.

We had a couple of dates before we made it official. One date where I took her to see my favorite soccer team and then another at a picnic closer to where she lives. That picnic was when we had our first kiss, and Ill never forget the joy I felt that day with her. After a year and three months of dating, I decided to propose to her on the day she met my moms side of our family in Orlando, Florida.

We traveled to Florida and I took her to the church where my parents got married. We went on a boat ride with my grandparents, and everyone met my bride-to-be. I also took her to Enzos on the Lake. This was where my father proposed to my mother, and a hot spot for proposals.

My parents and I had a plan to send the engagement ring to my grandparents, so she wouldnt find the ring on the way there. After our boat trip with my grandparents, they were able to hide it in a box shaped like a butterfly and we told Yen it was a gift for Emma my sister.

We left for the hotel afterwards, the ring was hiding in plain sight in that box, but she had no idea. We went to the restaurant that night and I had it planned to propose by the lake, however, it was already dark, and I didnt want to propose when no one could see us. I looked into her eyes and told her how much I loved her and how she makes me a better person than I could ever hope for.

I asked her if she would marry me and she said yes! The entire restaurant was watching and applauded us. A couple of young girls asked if they could sing for us to celebrate, and that made the moment even more memorable. That trip was my favorite time with her since our relationship together, and there were many great and loving times Ive had with her before and after then.
