**********Ceremony**********

What should I wear to the ceremony?

Guests should wear clothes appropriate for church on the wedding day. colorful dresses are a safe option for the ladies. No white, please. Slacks with a collared shirt are generally a safe bet for guys.

Catholic Mass Wedding Ceremony:

A Catholic priest will preside over the wedding ceremony, oversee the exchange of rings and vows, and offer a blessing to the couple. During a wedding mass in the Catholic church, the liturgy of the Eucharist, or communion, will take place. However, wedding guests who are not members of the Catholic church are asked to refrain from taking part in this religious practice. You can remain seated and enjoy the choir.

Mexican Traditions that will happen during the ceremony:

El Lazo:

In Mexican culture, the wedding lasso tradition involves draping a lasso, which is really more of a string or could even be made of rosary beads, around the to-be-weds as a symbol of their unity. This represents "the couple becoming one unit."

Las Arras Matrimoniales:

Las arras matrinoniales are wedding coins, gold coins, which are generally stored in an ornate box, are exchanged between the couple as a symbol of prosperity. The groom would offer the coins to the bride to show that he would be able to "provide for the family financially and the bride will protect and take care of it."

Presentation of the Bouquet:

A key element in Catholic Mexican wedding ceremonies is the presentation of a bouquet to the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus. During the presentation of the bouquet, the couple will pray with the Virgin Mary and ask for her intercession in their union.

After the ceremony we would love to take photos with our guest. We will also offer a special refreshing treat for our guests after the ceremony.

**********Reception/Party**********

What should I wear to the reception:

The reception will be more casual than the wedding ceremony so you don't need to stay as dressed up for the post-ceremony celebration. You can wear a whole different outfit. It will be a good idea to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Be prepare to drink, eat, dance and repeat.

Food:

We are having a dish called barbacoa(beef) and grilled chicken with rice, beans and tortillas. We will also have chicharrones(chips), a dessert table, a fruit table and a candy table for everyone to enjoy.

When it comes to bar menu, we will offer, different types of beer, tequila and margaritas. Please plan accordingly if you plan to drink.

Nonalcoholic drinks: water, juice, and a variety of sodas.

Our wedding cake will have different flavors: coconut, vanilla, chocolate and tres leches.

Traditional dances during the reception:

La Vibora de la Mar: is a more reckless form of a conga line where everyone holds hands to form the chain of people. The catch here is that both the bride and groom stand on a chair and, while using the bride’s veil to form a bridge, the chain of wedding guests go under the bridge and try to tumble the groom or bride. Two or three people will usually hold onto the groom and bride. This symbolizes that the couple will have obstacles during the marriage and they have to hold on to each other with family support.

El Muertito tradition: This is when the men at the wedding gather at the dance floor, carry the groom and walk walk around while carrying him like a dead man. This symbolized the groom single life is done and dead. After this the groom is tossed in the air a few times in celebration that he is now a new man and most important a married man.

El Baile del Billete: The translation to English being The Dollar Dance, this tradition invites wedding guests to dance with the bride and groom with the condition that they pin a dollar bill to their clothing. Though essentially paying them for a dance, it's seen more as a fun way to help the couple start their lives together. Money can range anywhere from 5’s, 10’s, 20’s, and even 100’s.

El Caballo Dorado: There are two songs that this band sings that are a MUST at the end of every Mexican wedding and that is “No Rompas Mas” (which is the spanish version of “My Achy Breaky Heart”) and “Payaso de Rodeo”. The former must play before the latter and you better have some stamina for this one. The point is to not only stay on tempo of the song but to also dance all through both songs while also avoiding getting stepped on. It’s exhilarating and hilarious and you should really try this.
