Jenny Kate and I were a part of the same friend group from our college ministry in 2022. We knew of each other but never really talked to each other until late in the year. I came to her work to volunteer at a Christmas event in December '22, and she taught the kids' Christmas bible story. This was the first moment I had interest in her because of the way she taught Scripture.

Shortly after was Christmas break, and we didn't really talk at all over break, but when I came back to Knoxville, I came to volunteer at Thrive again the week before I started my new job. That week I noticed how Jenny Kate led the kids she was over patiently and kindly; this is when I knew I wanted to ask her out. I talked to my friend and best man, Matt, about wanting to ask Jenny Kate out, and I also asked our friend Madison her thoughts a couple weeks later. Madison's reaction made it seem like this was a good idea! (see Jenny Kate's side for the details) Our friends were hanging out a lot in the next couple weeks, and so there were a lot of opportunities to ask out Jenny Kate; I finally decided to do so after our friends' Super Bowl Sunday party. And she said yes!

I wanted to ask out Jenny Kate because I could tell she has the character of a woman I could consider marrying. She is deeply rooted in her faith in Christ, and I love Jesus more because of her presence in my life. She is gentle, compassionate, confident and wise. The way she speaks is rooted in the truth of Christ and a desire for others to know him, and she knows how to love people well in the midst of pain and suffering. I am beyond excited to marry her and to spend a life together with her!
