For those who don’t know, we grew up together in Illinois. We were both in 7th grade when we met and grew up in the same friend group.
Over the years I developed a crush on Ashley, which turned into something more. By the time I was 20 and Ashley was 19 I worked up the courage to ask her out to lunch “as friends.” After hearing all about her missions work in Mexico, I decided that I wanted to shoot my shot on the car ride back to her place and I asked her on a date. She graciously informed me that she only saw me as a close friend, nothing more.
Fast forward 2 years and Ashley flew out to Arizona for a friend’s wedding. She texted me and asked if I’d be willing to pick her up from the airport and spend the day with her. Of course I jumped at the opportunity and said yes. After having a fun day together I worked up the courage to ask her out again and expressed my feelings for her. She yet again shot me down, “Zach, I only see you as a good friend.”
Fast forward 2 more years, Ashley responded to my Instagram story, that sparked a conversation that ended with me asking her if I could call her the next day. We ended up FaceTiming and during that FaceTime call I yet again expressed that I wanted to intentionally get to know her and pursue her. To which she responded, “I’d like that.” I went out to visit her in Denver over New Years and from the moment I set eyes on her I knew I was going to marry her.
Over the course of the next three months of intentionally talking, going on dates, and spending time together we both came to the conclusion that we wanted to get married. Sunday after Valentines Day we went and bought a ring, I proposed, and the rest is history.
We are so thankful to God for every person and situation that has been a part of our story and that has led us to getting married.
If you’ve been invited it’s because you’re one of the many people who has been significantly influential in my life, Ashley’s life, or both of our live’s. Thank you for being willing to come and celebrate our big day with us!
