The story of Zach and Mary Glenn began just after Christmas break, as the second semester of sixth grade was getting underway. Zach was sitting in the front of math class when a loud, unmistakable laugh suddenly echoed from the back of the room. He remembers thinking, “Who in the world is that?” As he turned around, he spotted Mary Glenn sitting in the back, completely unaware that their lives had just intersected for good.What started as middle-school familiarity slowly turned into a deep friendship that spanned years, with countless shared memories, experiences, and inside jokes. They were the kind of friends who just worked — always there for each other, the easy laughter, the person you always came back to. Zach, however, occasionally hoped that their friendship might evolve into something more. Even when he optimistically hoped that a high school movie night would end up counting as a “first date,” Mary Glenn was certain of one thing: he was simply too good of a friend to risk changing things. And so it went… for about ten yearsLife eventually took them in different directions. Mary Glenn attended Mississippi State, while Zach stayed in Tuscaloosa and went to school at The University of Alabama. Being full-time students in different states meant they didn’t get to see each other as often as they wanted, but they stayed in touch whenever they could.After college, Mary Glenn moved back to Tuscaloosa to teach, and it didn’t take long for the two of them to find their way back to each other — this time, with a little more life experience and a lot more clarity. The friendship that had always been the foundation finally shifted into something more. It turns out, timing really is everything.They’ve always known they were each other’s person — even before they knew what that meant. So when Zach proposed at the Gatlinburg Space Needle in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, it was a natural next step in a story that’s been unfolding since sixth grade. From math class to forever, this is proof that the best things don’t need to be rushed — they just need time.

The Riverwalk is an excellent paved trail along the southern bank of the Black Warrior River near downtown Tuscaloosa. The path is divided by a painted line making a distinct two way road for walkers and bikers. There are a variety of park areas that are all dog friendly sprinkled along the trail. The pathway has plenty of benches, gazebos &amp; hammock-friendly trees for quick breaks and picnics. The trail also provides a playground near the Public Library and a splash pad at the Bama Bell dock for the kids. The trail is well lighted with street lamps lining the trail. Though expanding, the present entire length is approximately 4.5 miles, starting at Capitol Park on the western end and ending at a gazebo on the East side of Manderson Landing. It is 4.2 miles if you start at the Amphitheater loop, where you can use the ample parking that venue offers.

During his 2005 inaugural address, Mayor Walt Maddox established the core belief that all academically at-risk four-year-old children deserve a highly effective pre-k education. Within weeks, Maddox and the City Council established the Pre-K Task Force representing stakeholders from across the community to investigate the feasibility of turning this belief into reality. The Task Force evolved into the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative and now serves more than 650 at-risk preschool students.
