We met through the cycling community, two wheels carrying us toward a destiny we didn’t even know was waiting. Zaira had just moved from Orange County to Los Angeles, searching for friends to ride with, and stumbled upon Trash Panda Cycling on Instagram.
On a Tuesday ride post, she left a comment—and right after, a follow request appeared. Zaira quickly assumed Vicente was the ride leader. She sent him a message about the rides, though to this day, Vicente swears she still “slid into his DMs.”🫢 Zaira insists he took the first step. And maybe that’s how it’s always been with us—a saga of playful banter and destiny disguised as chance.
Our first meeting was on a Sunday night. Zaira had just finished work, and Vicente offered her dinner. He had posted a picture of food on his story, so naturally she thought he’d cooked and saved her some. But when he arrived, he was empty-handed, with a sly smile and an even slicker offer: “Lets go grab dinner.”
From that night forward, we became inseparable. Riding together, cooking together, hiking together—becoming not just partners but best friends. Neither of us was looking for a relationship, yet something greater was looking for us. It unfolded naturally, beautifully, as if the universe already knew.
Almost five years have passed since that first night, though it feels like no time at all. Together, we’ve shared countless rides, countless meals, countless laughs. We’ve met incredible people and built lasting friendships along the way. But our greatest joy has been building our little family.
We have two cats—our sweet Miles, named after Zaira’s favorite jazz musician Miles Davis, and our mischievous Xeno, named after our shared love of the Alien movies. They are a reflection of us too: one calm, one playful, both a part of our hearts.
Through it all, we’ve been yin and yang—balancing each other’s strengths and softening each other’s edges. Our love is steady and adventurous, patient and wild. A love built not only on searching, but on finding. Not on rushing, but on becoming.
We didn’t plan for this, but it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to us. And this is only just beginning.
