We know you're only here to see us walk down the aisle, not tanning at the BEST beaches in the world, enjoying the finest dining in the Pacific, experiencing optimal sunrises and sunsets, or diving with underwater friends. Maybe even catching a wave or two... But if you do have some free time, we attached recs for each side of the island- reminder to not leave valuables in your car, leave everything out of sight as lot of places are at risk for break-ins. Reach out to us if you are looking for a specific recommendation! Here is an overview: South Shore: Here you will find Honolulu, our major city with a wide variety of restaurants, kid-friendly beaches, and the ultimate tourist destination of Waikiki. Locals refer to this area as “Town”. There are plenty of hotels to choose from, all within walking distance of shops and beaches. The famous Diamond Head volcano provides a stunning backdrop and good walking and park activity options. It does tend to get a bit busy here, so if you are looking for a quiet stay, you may want to look elsewhere. North Shore: This is where we are getting married, at Ka’ala Vista! The venue is located near Haleiwa, a popular surf town with quaint shops, food trucks galore, expansive beaches, and beautiful rural country for driving. During the summer, waves are pretty chill up here but be cautious of deep water and rip currents. Rental options are limited to Airbnb and VRBO, unless you want to stay at Turtle Bay resort about 20 minutes from Haleiwa. East Side: This side is very family-friendly and is home to the charming town of Kailua, known for its vast sandy beach where residents like to swim and kite-surf. It is a bit remote from Town and North Shore but a great option if you are looking for Airbnb and VRBO rentals in a quiet residential area. Drives up to North Shore and South Shore are scenic but you will want to plan at least an hour for either trip. Several beautiful highways cross the central mountains to allow travel to town, the Pali, the Likelike (lee-kay-lee-kay), and the H3. West Side: This is the most “local” area of the island with limited food options and amenities. While the beaches are nice-looking and the Disney Resort can be found here, there isn’t as much to do for families and it can be a long drive from Town. Although it appears close to North Shore, there are no interconnecting roads so it is actually one of the furthest locations from our venue. Central: Dominated by military bases, the airport, and shopping malls, the center of the island is not as recommended for your stay.&nbsp;

South Shore:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Restaurants(requiring reservations): Monkey Pod Kitchen (Waikiki- stunning sunset, happy hour deals, best Mai Tais), YogurStory (yummy breakfast spot with famous purple Ube pancakes), Pau Hana Base (if you are wanting to go outside your box and try some of the best Japanese food) Restaurants (Casual):Red Elephant (Kaimuki-favorite Thai food-recommend panang curry), South Shore Grill (near Diamond Head, surf n turf AKA best burritos), J. Dolan’s ( Kahala- Irish pub-good pizza and wings), Foodland Market (grocery store chain with the best poke for your buck), Peppa’s (local Korean BBQ- plate lunch style), Bogarts (breakfast near Waikiki) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Coffeeshops: The Curb (our go-to in Kaimuki), Island Brew (Hawaii Kai), Honolulu Coffee Experience (Waikiki). Ars Café (near Diamond Head), Morning Glass (Manoa), Surf Camp (Aina Haina), Morning Brew (Kaka’ako). &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Breweries: Brew’d (our neighborhood pub-decent pupus (aka appetizers)- on the spendier side with food), Hana Koa Brewing (best beers on island- per Zane’s opinion 😉-on the spendier side with food), Maui Brewing (Waikiki- good food options), Kona Brewing (home to the famous Big Wave Beer, cool location in Hawaii Kai, good pizza), Aloha Beer Co. (Kaka’ako), Howzit (local new tiny lil brewery with just beers). Hiking: Manoa Falls Trail (waterfall~1hr round trip, gets busy during the day-have to pay for parking BUT if you want some more exercise and save some moola, can park outside in the neighborhoods and walk inside the park), Diamond Head Trail (must pay and reserve- TBH Cam and Zane have never done it but heard cool views!), Makapuu Lighthouse Trail (free, paved trail with parking lot that opens at 7am- do not recommend in the heat of the day- very heavy sun, best in the morning!) Kuliouou (Cam’s favorite hike- 5 miles roundtrip- more on the intense side of hiking), Koko Head (free, 1,048 straight incline stair stepper- do not recommend in heat of day- gets very busy, steps can get slippery, Cam cried first time so maybe not for those with fear of heights- good for both sunrise and sunset), Judd Trail (nice little waterfall and hike, parking can be sketchy). Beaches: Kaimanas (family friendly on outskirt of Waikiki- good spot to swim for all ages), Waikiki beach

South Shore Recs

North Shore:Restaurants (Casual): Farm to Barn Café (good breakfast burritos, cool setting!), Surf N’ Salsa (food truck with good Mexican food and nice area to sit in the back), most people try the shrimp food trucks, Haleiwa Joes (need recommendation, on spendier side). Dole Plantation- just recommend trying the Dole Whip- not really worth it in our opinion to pay for the tours. Coffeeshops: Surfer’s Coffee (in Wahiawa on way to NS- parking located in the back), Bird’s Nest Coffee (Haleiwa, in gas station), Green World Coffee Farm Hiking: Hiking is limited, NS known more for beaches. Ka’ena Point (get back before 7pm as gate closes- takes about 2-3 hours, simple walk along the ocean). Beaches: All are good- summer time waves should be chill, but be careful of currents, conditions, and choose beaches that have lifeguard stands. Examples: Sunset beach, Waimea Bay, Haleiwa Beach Park).

North Shore Recs

East Side:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Restaurants: K-Bay Bros (yummy poke located in Kanoehe, no seating), Nico’s (known for seafood, on the nicer end in Kailua), Over-Easy (good breakfast spot in Kailua, recommend the Kalua Pig Hash), Morning Brew (coffeeshop and breakfast foods Kailua), Paia Fish Market (fresh cooked fish option in Kailua) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Coffeeshops: Chadlou’s (really good coffee but limited seating and no food), Café Kopi (coffee and yummy pastries), Morning Brew &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Hiking: Lanikai Pillbox Hike (recommend for sunrise, heavily trafficked, somewhat difficult, free parking in neighborhood but limited) I recommend watching sunrise at Lanikai Beach if you aren’t wanting to hike, Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden in Kanoehe (beautiful walking area with picturesque mountains in the back- good for the kiddos). &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Beaches: Sherwoods (Cam’s favorite- nice beach, sandy ocean floor, safe for the kiddos, good spot to hangout/picnic, big parking lot), Kailua Beach Park (can get crowded later in the day, limited parking, but very pretty!)

East Side Recs

West Side: Nice beaches, limited restaurants and amenities, Ko’Olina resort. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Restaurants: Mostly located at Ko’Olina Resort area (Cam and Zane have never been), Monkey Pod Kitchen location in Kapolei Central: If you have a rainy day- highly recommend Bishop Museum (great way to learn about Hawaiian History), Pearl Harbor.
