Zayaan was the kind of girl who preferred quiet corners, good books, and avoiding the office coffee machine during peak hours to dodge small talk. Jihaad was the guy who treated every conversation like a mini-board meeting, always strategizing, always hustling. The workplace was their battlefield – not of romance, but of deadlines and deliverables.
Neither of us were looking for love. Zayaan was content being an enigma, and Jihaad? Well, he was married already...to his business.
The universe, however, had other plans.
It all began with a project that required us to work together. Jihaad, in his usual fervor, would say things like, “My business is my baby,” leaving Zayaan wondering, Does he like me? Or am I competing with his spreadsheets?
On the other side, Jihaad found himself inexplicably drawn to Zayaan’s quiet confidence and thoughtful insights. But making a move? That was uncharted territory. After all, “How can I think about marriage when I still need to optimize my supply chain?”
Days turned into weeks, and the workplace became a stage for our not-so-subtle awkwardness. A friendly compliment here, a lingering glance there—nothing too obvious, of course. Zayaan, always overthinking, would confide in her friends, “I think he likes me...but then he mentions profit margins, and I’m back to square one.”
Jihaad, on the other hand, was torn between his growing feelings and his growth targets. “She’s amazing,” he thought, “but what if I miss the quarterly projections?”
Eventually, fate (and a nosy colleague) intervened. During an office lunch, someone blurted out, “Jihaad, do you ever talk about anything besides your business?!” Jihaad, caught off guard, turned red and glanced at Zayaan. “Well,” he said with a sheepish grin, “I have been thinking about someone who isn’t my business lately.”
Cue gasps, laughter, and Zayaan dropping her fork.
From that moment, the ice broke, and the rest, as they say, is history. Jihaad realized you can nurture a business and a relationship, while Zayaan learned that sometimes, love is found in the most unexpected places—even amidst sales reports and PowerPoint slides.
We’re thrilled to be starting this next chapter together and can’t wait to celebrate it with all of you!
