We are so excited to celebrate with you!
"Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." - Samuel Johnson
You will find no shortage of things to do, places to eat or pubs to drink in in London, but for those visiting from out of town, we've put together a few of our favourite places in case you need some inspiration
Attractions (yes they're touristy, but totally worth it)
1. Westminster Abbey Some pretty famous dead people in an incredible building (right next to the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and a quick stroll to Buckingham Palace , 10 Downing Street & Trafalgar Square)
2. Houses of Parliament Government aside, it's a spectacular building. If you can arrange a tour, we highly recommend it
3. Tower of London Crown jewels and Traitor's Gate... what more could you need. (Right next to Tower Bridge)
4. Tower Bridge Although much fancier, we can assure you that this is in fact, not London Bridge
5. St. Paul's Cathedral Yes, another fancy church with more very famous dead people. Insider tip - climb all the way to the top for the most incredible panoramic views of the city , and stop in the Whispering Gallery on your way up
6. Churchill's War Rooms Bunker where Churchill was holed up during the war. Close to Parliament/ Westminster Abbey - book ahead!
7. St. Dunstan's in the East a hidden gem near the Tower of London - beautiful garden you'd miss unless you were looking for it!
8. London Parks Yes it will be February and very likely miserable out, but the London Parks are incredible and worth a visit. Our (central) favourites are St. James Park, Hyde Park and Primrose Hill
9. Art/Museums We're not art people, but there are no shortage of galleries and museums to keep you busy. The Tate Modern, British Museum, Imperial War Museum, Saatchi Gallery, Design Museum and National Portrait Gallery would be our picks if we had make some
One last tip - don't waste your time (or money) on the bus tours. Instead, jump on the 24, 11 or 9 buses, each of which take you by some of the more famous sites in the city at a fraction of the cost
There is absolutely no shortage of incredible food and restaurants in London (many we've not even heard of!) but here are a few of our favourites if you need inspiration...
1. Borough Market -Food Stalls no explanation needed, just go hungry. Avoid peak weekend hours, but hopefully you'll be at our wedding so this should not be an issue
2. Get a curry! Some of our favourites in London, both higher end and super casual are as follows: Tayyeb's (Whitechapel, BYOB), Tandoor Chophouse (Covent Garden/The Strand), The Tamil Prince (often voted best Indian in London), Dishoom (we don't care it's a chain, it's delicious), Gymkhana (Michelin Star), The Cinnamon Club (should be Michelin Star)
3. Rambutan - Sri Lankan hole in the wall in Borough Market and absolutely incredible - reservations absolutely required
4. Berenjak - Middle Eastern in Borough Market (sensing a theme here?) or Soho. Reservations encouraged
5. A. Wong - Upscale Chinese in Pimlico. Duck pancakes to die for. Reservations (as far in advance as possible) required
7. The Devonshire - the new hotspot in Soho/Piccadilly. It's under new ownership and all of the rage (and delicious). Some of the best Guinness in London. No surprises here, but make a reservation
8. St. John - Farringdon. British classic, changing menu - always delicious.
9. Sketch - Mayfair. Go for photos in the toilet and stay for the food. Several rooms/restaurants to choose from, all more beautiful than the rest. A London institution (also great for afternoon tea!)
10. Circolo Poplare - Soho, part of the Big Mama group. Italian food, which is delicious - but go for the decor (it's incredible)
11. Shoreditch recs - assuming many people will be staying out east, here are some favourites in the area: Smoking Goat, Lahpet, Lyle's, BAO Noodle Shop, Brat, Manteca
