Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, and is built on a series of hills with pretty views from all angles. Lisbon is a stunning, vibrant and all the while relaxing city with an eclectic blend of culture and architecture, with traditional shops, modern shopping centres, culinary delights and a truly exciting nightlife.
Here is a breakout of the locations/areas/districts that we recommend you look at when choosing your accommodation. Baixa, Chiado and Rossio, Alfama, Bairro Alto, Alcântara, Príncipe Real & Avenida da Liberdade. In addition to these traditional areas, there is a modern area of Lisbon which we would recommend. It is called Marquess of Pombal Square (Praça do Marquês de Pombal) and its surroundings.
Outside of Lisbon - within easy reach of the city are the sandy beaches of several coastal resorts. So, if your seeking something a bit more chill with some sea vibes we highly recommend Cascais, Estoril and Ericeira.
Ericeira is a little town buzzing with charm and with much to offer in terms of food: the freshest fish and seafood .
Since it was declared a World Surfing Reserve small innovative shops, bars, cafés and surf schools are thriving. The coast boasts some amazing beaches so culture enthusiasts can easily combine itineraries to World Heritage sites such as Sintra, Tomar, Alcobaça, and Batalha.
Cascais lies just 30km west of Lisbon. Once a quaint fishing village and now a colourful, pretty and cosmopolitan holiday town with elegant pedestrianized streets, fashionable shops, restaurants and bars.
Transfer from Lisbon airport approx. 30 mins.
Estoril is 20km from Lisbon and sits majestically over a stunning marina and old port. It is a fashionable cosmopolitan playground with fine golf courses and attractive sandy beaches. The beaches are linked by a walkway that is dotted with snack bars, restaurants and cafes along the way. A pleasant beachfront promenade links Estoril to the wonderful Cascais and makes for a great afternoon stroll.
Mafra is a city located 20 minutes north of Lisbon and 10 minutes from Ericeira. Although it is a quieter, more relaxed city than Lisbon, there are points of interest to visit which make it an excellent day trip.
