Zofya’s Story: Most of you know I’ve been obsessed with Stephen since the first time that we talked, and haven’t been able to let go of my mission crush ever since, but who can blame me? He waltzed into my life, called me a theater kid, and would comment on all my photos….I was hooked! We served in the same district about halfway through my mission, and this was the point where everything changed. I didn’t actually realize that I liked him until we had a district P-day where we were burning CDs, (of mission appropriate music, of course) and I got butterflies anytime he would show me one of his favorite songs. I think I kinda decided then that I was gonna marry him. Towards the end of our missions I uh….asked him to come to my sister’s wedding. (Sorry President and Sister Chase!) Well, a few months went by and he kept his word and came to the reception with me. From the moment he stepped through my door I just felt all awkwardness melt away. Each moment of that weekend felt straight out of a book. He took my hand and danced with me, made me laugh, played pretend with all the kids, and solidified the feeling in my heart that I couldn’t bear to not be with him. From there we decided to figure out the distance and give our story a shot, I think it’s going pretty well so far… :)

Love Through My Eyes

Stephen J. Mashler here. For me, I have always known Zofya and I would get along. Ever since I first saw her Facebook profile, before she even showed up in Chicago. During our time near each other in the Chicago suburbs, I always found myself gravitating toward her and wanting to talk with her about all the stuff we had in common. As time went on, we got placed into the same missionary district, or what basically becomes a mandated friend group, and spent a whole lot of time together. And what a joy it was. At some point in August of 2024, we once again found ourselves chatting with each other at a missionary event, and Zofya slyly asked me to accompany her to her sister's wedding! I made sure the people around us knew, too. What an exciting ask of a romance-deprived young man about to re-enter the dating world! I thought about that all the time for the following six months. After some twists and turns and not seeing each other for a while, I finally made it to Spokane one night in February. As soon as I walked through the door I felt undeniable sparks flying between us, and I realized I had found what I was looking for. Everything since then has only served to solidify that. I couldn't be more excited for our eternity together.
