Oh those summer nights...

It was a Thursday night in June 2017 and our friends had gathered for the epitome of every early 20 year old in Royal Oak- Mug Night. Sitting on one end of the bar, we talked (argued) about Marvel for hours. I forced Kevin to actually open Facebook so he could accept my friend request. And even before we ended up in that booth at Leo's, I felt that spark. And promptly dismissed it because he lived eons away in Pittsburgh.

Through the next few years, it was like we were missed connections: seeing each other only through the (very few) photos our friends would post with the other or passing by at parties. I distinctly remember seeing Kevin on Kristen and Luke's wedding website and thinking "Oh look it's Kevin! I'm glad he's going to be there!"

And then the pandemic hit. The world stopped. And we both changed. Evolved. And someone moved to Michigan... and for a year and a half I had no idea...

Another series of missed connections, until that fateful night where as (beer pong) partners, I learned Kevin had moved here and that Facebook friend request finally paid off with an invite to my birthday Facebook event. And I thusly annoyed every friend as I stalked his (very bare) social media for inklings of his life.

Even the night of my birthday, it was clear we had a connection- and finally exchanged numbers with a promise to text in the morning- which took Kevin forever (8pm!!).

I freaked out over every text (as Megan can tell you). I came up with excuses that were so obvious just to talk to him. With a little prompting and some liquid courage (from Ria), I gave Kevin the perfect opening, (which he promptly took). We may have had some miscommunication around if it was even a date (I was so sure I had played it cool and he would NEVER think of me that way...).

But we finally made it, and on January 28th, 2022 we had our first date. Despite not even realizing it was a date until five minutes after we agreed to meet (the word date had never been used and I have the texts to prove it!), it was perfect. In a situation only I could create, I left EARLY to meet him. Only to forget my wallet, and it was in his offer to pay for my parking that I finally knew.

Those first 5 hours went by so fast. We talked about everything and anything, which we still do to this day.
