Travel Tips

Danny wants everyone to know

Canadian dollars are cheaper than US dollars. Meaning US money goes a long way. Right now, 1CAD=0.73USD

Passport

Please make sure that you get your passport and ensure that it is up-to-date! You have to have a valid passport when entering Canada. The US Government recommends renewing your passport 9-months before it expires to ensure that you have it in time. Some countries are picky with letting people in if their passport expires within 6-months of their trip!

Flying in

The closest airport is Calgary (YYC). It is about 1 hour 15 minutes to Canmore by car. You can either rent a car at the airport or there are shuttles that drop you off at one of the hotels in Canmore or Banff. The shuttle looks to be around $150 round trip.

Car Rental

We landed in international terminal concourse D. Exit passport control and go left. Keep going following the signs for car rental, it is far! When you get to the signs go outside and cross the street going into the building marked for car rentals. There are various car rental options inside. You should look into booking ahead of time to save time and to ensure that you have the car you want. Be mindful if there is snow not all cars have 4 wheel/AWD.

Getting around Canmore

There is no Uber but they have taxis that can be used to get around if you did not rent a car or if you aren’t able to drive. The freeway runs through the center of Canmore but the area with the Mainstreet is walkable. The wedding venue is a 15-20 minute drive depending where you are staying so you will either need to taxi or drive there.

Going into Banff National Park

If you want to go to the Town of Banff or any of the state parks you need a pass. The AirBnB we stayed at had an annual pass that we could borrow to get into the park, otherwise it was $22/day to get into the park. Discovery passes are $150 which are their annual passes that also get you into up to 80 parks in Canada and some of the National Historic Sites. Either way the pass needs to be displayed on the dashboard of your vehicle when entering. The passes can be bought at the gate into Banff or online. If you order it online, it may take up to 30 days to be delivered.
