Our Wedding

John and Abbey's love story began like many modern love stories...on Hinge. Although they initially crossed paths at a Columbus staple, Standard Hall, their first official date was at Top Golf. This was a bold move by John to impress the prior Division I college golfer, but the night ended with margaritas and many laughs so Abbey was sold. These two instantly bonded over being the youngest siblings and sharing a love for cooking, golfing, and Spongebob references. John never lets Abbey forget that she's a "cougar" by 7 months and Abbey never lets John forget the two most important men in her life...her parents' dogs Norman and George. Three years passed, filled with many golf rounds, new nieces and nephews, trips to Kiawah Island, and even a couple trips to the hospital. Who knew appendectomies could be so romantic? It was not until December 21, 2024 that Abbey finally realized they were not in fact going to dinner with John's family that night, she was about to say yes to marrying the love of her life. The newly-engaged were met with more milestones in 2025. They purchased a home less than 1 mile from the rest of Abbey's siblings and experienced the tiniest taste of parenthood as they welcomed a "fur baby" to their little family in August. Harvey is spunky, wild, and oh-so cuddly. He made himself right at home and is as dramatic as they come, but his "pawrents" couldn't imagine life without him. Abbey and John can't wait to tie the knot in Kiawah Island where they share so many amazing memories together and celebrate with you all. Cheers to the Mowats!

About Kiawah Island

Kiawah Island is ten miles of wide, immaculate, oceanfront beach that invites you to stroll or cycle for hours without interruption. The beach is complemented by the island’s river, meandering lagoons, pristine marshlands and maritime forests. It’s a haven for wildlife which includes over 400 alligators, 400 deer, and an amazing array of shorebirds. As a barrier island, Kiawah has a unique Southern facing beach so you can enjoy the sunrise and the sunset from the very same beach! A leisure trail runs throughout the island and is perfect for long walks, jogs, or bike riding.

Golf  In order to reserve a tee time, please contact Kiawah Island Golf Resort Concierge ((800) 654-2924) to receive a preferred rate.   The Ocean Course Home to the 2012 and 2021 PGA Championships as well as the iconic 1991 Ryder Cup dubbed the “War by the Shore”.    Other Resort Courses: Osprey Point, Cougar Point, Turtle Point and Oak Point. All amazing courses! Each course has a restaurant as well. There is no better way to reach them than on a bicycle. Ride along 30 miles of paved leisure trails and 10 miles of hard packed beach.   Bike Rental Reservations: By Phone: Advance reservations are recommended for bike rentals, please call Recreation Reservations at 843-768-6001.   Walk-Up Bike Rentals: There are 2 convenient locations for walk up service, offering rentals from half-day to monthly. The Angel Oak﻿On your way out to Kiawah from the airport if driving we encourage you to make a quick stop at The Angel Oak . The Southern Live Oak tree is a historical site and is considered to be the largest Live Oak Tree east of the Mississippi. It is estimated to be 300 to 400 years old.
