History of the Venue

The Timber Barn was built in 2015 by Steve Frey and his son Donovan. The wood outside was donated by Fort Leavenworth when they cleared old growth for new housing. The white weathered wood was take from the Tin Barn you can see across the street from the venue, it was part of Vaughn's Apple Orchard that closed years ago. It is all held together with wooden pegs, with the mallets that were used to hammer them all in placed above the front door.

The Chandelier was another Steven invention, hand crafted with wheels left on the farm from the early 1900s and apple pickers as the light covers. Up past that is a real cupula, the wheel on the east wall turns to open the windows and let hot air out.

The Timber Barn stands on the hill where part of the battle of Bee Creek was fought, and many native artifacts have been found all over the property.

The farm has been a working farm for decades, changing hands many times. One famous owner of the property was Mary Vineyard: Abraham Lincolns girlfriend before he married Mary Todd. He proposed to her several times and she turned down everyone. You can find her resting place in Weston and on her head stone it reads "Here lies Mary Vineyard who turned down Abraham Lincolns marriage proposal in 1837". You can see her original tobacco barn to the West.

As you enter onto the property, there will be an open gate on your right side. Helpful staff will be there to guide you to your parking spots and to the venue.
