In June 2017, Christina and Adam met in the basement of a Philadelphia conference center shortly before departing the U.S. for Malawi, where each would be working as a Peace Corps Volunteer for the next two and half years. After arriving, the two became fast friends as they navigated the complexities of language and technical training in rural Malawi before heading out to their respective communities in opposite corners of the country.
The two grew closer over the next several months, when finally, they shared their mutual feelings of “more than friends” towards the end of that year. This started a relationship journey that would span continents, though no distance was too great to keep Adam and Christina from cultivating a life together. In fact, upon nearing the end of their Peace Corps service, the two decided to extend their stay for another year and to move in together in Lilongwe, Malawi.
Over the years, Adam and Christina were fortunate to be able to follow their individual paths to careers in public service, which at times forced them to live farther from one another than either would have liked. Still, the love that they have for one another has risen to meet each of life’s challenges head on and has allowed them to build a life together that provides endless happiness, support, and giggles. After the happiest and silliest six years of their lives, Adam proposed to Christina – and she joyfully accepted – in May of 2023.
This past spring, the couple moved to Alexandria, Virginia, where they spend their time exploring Old Town, baking often, and getting outside whenever possible. After years of traveling between: Mzuzu and Lilongwe, Rockville and Lexington, Falls Church and Roanoke, and a quick few months in Boston and Petworth – to be able to share their lives together has been the most incredible experience.
Christina and Adam are so excited to celebrate their wedding day with their family and friends! They owe everything to those that have supported and encouraged them throughout their lives and throughout their relationship; they are ecstatic to be able to see you all in May.
