The hills (err, Highway 2) come alive every morning, thanks to daily Alpenhorn performances at the Enzian Inn. Guests staying at the property can enjoy coffee and breakfast on the balcony, where a musician perches on the adjoining railing and plays a quick concert.
Even if it’s not Christmas time, you can still see Santa’s crew at the Leavenworth Reindeer Farm. This fantastic, family-run operation has been around since 2016, and has a herd of a couple dozen subspecies of Woodland Caribou which are considered an endangered species.
Admission is $20-$25 dollars depending on the season, for those ages 3 and up. Advance reservations are recommended.

Probably the number one question people have about Leavenworth, is “how the heck did a small town in the middle of Washington turn into a German-themed tourist attraction?!” The place to find out is the Greater Leavenworth Museum, which is on Front Street above the Nutcracker Museum.
In true Bavarian style, there are a handful of beer gardens on Front Street with plenty of long tables and outdoor patio space.
One of the most popular bars in Leavenworth is München Haus, which has a semi-indoor area with a fun ‘eye spy’ mural, a rooftop deck and patio. Their sausages are fantastic, and customized with almost any topping you can think of, and the bar serves up beer, wine and non-alcoholic bevys.

Holiday lights and decor blanket the streets, bakeries roll out seasonal goodies, snow cloaks the mountain peaks and wooden facades, and carolers sing in the gazebo.
Kids love sledding in town or heading up to the tube park, there are groomed tracks for nordic skiing, and horse drawn sleigh rides complete with hot cocoa.
Be sure to duck into Kris Kringle on Front Street, a year-long Christmas store with thousands of decorations, light up houses and figurines.
While snowmobiling and skiing both are adrenaline-filled experiences, snowshoeing is a great slow-paced way to enjoy the winter wonderland.
Snowshoes are easily rented in Leavenworth from many different places (here are a few) or it’s fairly cheap to buy your own pair if you think you’ll be a regular snowshoer.
Once you rent the snowshoes, there are many places to take them. Leavenworth is full of beautiful trails that can be snowshoed. The Icicle Gorge Nature Loop is a great option. This hike is a 4-mile hike along Icicle Creek. The grade of the trail is nice and gentle and the trail is mostly flat.
The Icicle Gorge Nature Loop trail is an interpretive loop with several signs explaining the ecology of the area and describing different species you may see along the trail. Read the sign at the trailhead for a map of the trails in the area to keep on the nature loop trail.
One way to explore the snowy forests near Leavenworth is by snowmobile.
Snowmobiles are great for exploring snowy forest roads in the winter. Snowmobiles can take you on a great adventure, with far less work than going on a hike! It’s great if you want to get outdoors during the winter, but you don’t feel up to hiking in the snow.
In Leavenworth, you can join a snowmobile tour or rent a snowmobile of your own to experience the fun of riding a snowmobile through the woods.

There are many tour options available ranging from one hour to four hours through the mountains surrounding Leavenworth. There is a four-hour tour that goes to the top of Sourdough Mountain Lookout, a great viewpoint of surrounding mountains.
