Land & Labor Acknowledgement

Today we recognize the original inhabitants and stewards of this land—land of the Choctaw, Houma, Chitimacha, Biloxi, and other Native peoples. Native peoples have lived on this land since time immemorial. With gratitude and honor, we acknowledge the Indigenous nations that have lived and continue to thrive here.

We also pause to recognize and acknowledge the labor upon which this city, state, and our country, and institutions are built. We remember that our country is built on the labor of enslaved people and recognize the continued contribution of their survivors.

We also acknowledge all immigrant labor, those who contributed to the building of this country and continue to serve within our labor force.

To the people who contributed this immeasurable work and their descendants, we acknowledge their indelible mark on the space in which we gather today and stand in solidarity with Native, Indigenous, and First Nations People, their sovereignty, cultural heritage, and lives.
