Having traveled to Medellin several times before and during the planning of this wedding, the one thing that I can not stress enough is DO NOT FLY AVIANCA. You may look at the flights and think to yourself "it's a direct flight and it's only 5 and a half hours... how bad can it be?". Do not fall victim to this thought, it is much worse than you can think. At Luisa's towering 5'0 she did not have any legroom in the "extra space" seats; you can just imagine what I went thought. Learn from our mistakes, Jetblue has flights connecting via Fort Lauderdale, Delta has connections via Bogota (recently stopped operating nonstop from New York to Bogota; now it connects through Atlanta to Bogota), American connects via Miami. All are infinitely better options than Avianca. José María Córdova International Airport (MDE) is where all international flights will land and it is approximately a 30 minute UBER ride to the city center.
