Here are some tips for our guests coming to Ireland for the first time

Passports

You are going to need a passport to travel to Ireland. If you don't already have a passport, please apply for one ASAP!

Starting in 2024, the EU is requiring people traveling to the EU to register with the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS). However, this is not required for traveling to Ireland.

Flying from the Philadelphia Area

Newark International Airport has direct flights on United Airlines from Newark (EWR) to Shannon (SNN), which is the closest airport to the wedding.

Philadelphia International Airport has direct flights from Philly (PHL) to Dublin (DUB) on American and Aer Lingus airlines. You can rent a car from the airport or take the bus to Limerick. The drive from Dublin to Limerick is roughly 2 hours.

Driving

Drivers in Ireland drive on the left.

Most cars in Ireland are manual. Automatic cars are available, but are not as common. If you plan on renting a car while in Ireland, be sure to specify whether or not you want an automatic car.

For drivers from the Greater Philadelphia Area, drivers in Ireland are much more patient; please be kind 😁

Drinking and driving is not tolerated in Ireland. Random breathalyzer checkpoints get set up, especially on the weekends. Be prepared to call a taxi if necessary.

If travelling on the M50 motorway around Dublin, you will need to pay a toll. There is no tollbooth; instead, you can pay the M50 toll at most gas stations and convenience stores in Ireland. You are also able to pre-pay in case you plan on travelling back through the M50, such as travelling back to to Dublin airport to fly home.

Cell Phones

If you want to stay connected, we recommend getting a prepaid SIM card for your phone. Common wireless carriers include Vodafone and Eir.

To keep in contact with friends and family back home, we recommend using a messaging app such as WhatsApp, Discord, or Signal that don't rely on your normal cell phone service or phone number
