Where We First Met

Karl & Alexis met over brunch at Silver, their local diner, on February 11, 2023. Brunch went longer than expected - so much so that Alexis's friends were concerned that she hadn't checked-in. After brunch, the pair took Tuxedo for a walk. Aside from an awkward goodbye, we'd say it went pretty well!

How We Started Dating

Karl floated the idea prior, but finally worked up the courage to ask Alexis to officially be his girlfriend on March 11 while the two were at Tatte, a local coffee shop. Six months later, we realized our half-year anniversary didn't fall on the best date.

Hi I’m Kylie! Alexis calls me Fred. I’ve known Alexis since our CrossMovement days, where we danced together starting at the ripe age of 3. It wasn’t until a few years later when we bonded over a TV show (Monk) and a movie (A Walk to Remember) at dance rehearsal, that we really clicked. Since then, we became inseparable. Though we were distanced throughout the school years, we could always count on the summers to bring us back together. We began writing together, became published authors (on Wattpad), and became creative partners. No matter the distance, Alexis is my shoulder and my inspirer. I can always count on my Phil!

Kylie Nifong

I’m Shelby, one of Alexis’s best friends since second grade. We met on the playground after she changed schools, I asked her to be friends, and wewere together from then on. We joined orchestra together (go clarinets!), survived the slingshot on Senior Trip (barely), and Alexis somehow convinced me to join both the WCA swim team and the High Point rowing team in high school (which left us with emotional scars and some great memories). I’m now a CPA, and my husband, Josh, and I just had a baby boy in March!

Shelby Yates

I met Alexis junior year of college working at the Carolina Student Union at UNC. A few months after we met, I found out that Alexis broke her toe with the top of a cocktail table on her first shift when I was supposed to be training her. After surviving the Union, finding Oliver (Alexis’ cat), some crazy nights on the town, and a couple falls when rushing Franklin after Carolina swept Duke, we have been friends for 6 years. Even though I live in Charlotte working as an accountant, I still try to visit Oliver in DC as much as possible (and Alexis since they live in the same apartment).

Brianna Barlow

I was Alexis’ roommate at UNC! We met because our last names are basically the same, and I figured that was a good enough excuse to reach out. A few days later, we met up at Barnes & Noble (later learned Anthony and Shelby were spying on us), realized we had a ton in common, and became roommates... until Alexis abandoned me by graduating early. I’m allegedly the reason she joined marching band (even though that’s not how I remember it), we watched literally every crime show ever made together, and we had the best roommate Halloween costumes every year. When I stayed with her during my master’s at Johns Hopkins, I met Karl and knew I liked him because we’re both Northerners. Now, I work at the Morehead Planetarium in Chapel Hill!

My name is Mari Seda Alvarez. I met Alexis during our first year of law school but we bonded during our second year. Since we became closer, I have always been able to count on Alexis, and know that no matter what our futures look like, I know that we are bonded for life. I am her law school bestie and confidant (shhh don’t tell anyone but I’m her favorite). I am also Oliver’s fun aunt in DC. I am so happy to see and be a part of Alexis and Karl’s future together!

Marimar Seda Alvarez

Iris is Alexis’s cousin and officially the second girl of the Berg grandkids, so Alexis was outnumbered no more. Iris has lived in Bangkok her whole life, but the two have always stayed close! When hiking in National Parks at a family reunion, Alexis carried Iris on her shoulders for days. When Alexis almost died in Thailand, Iris was right by her side. Everyone says they were basically the same kid growing up, and Dave (Iris’s dad and Alexis’s uncle) still mixes up their names. They are both oldest sisters with pesky little brothers, obsessed with notebooks, and love an aesthetic planner. Alexis and Karl are so excited she is part of the wedding!

Linsey is the youngest Berg cousin and definitely the feistiest. Alexis has watched her grow up from a tiny baby into an 11-year-old with sharp comedic timing and zero hesitation to roast everyone in the family (usually lovingly). She lives in Lexington and is secretly an animal whisperer. Linsey absolutely loves cats and has somehow befriended every neighborhood animal and the cows at Grandma and Grandpa Berg’s farm. Linsey is also an insanely talented artist and sends Alexis the best birthday and Christmas paintings (as seen in the photo). Alexis and Karl are so excited she’s part of the wedding!

Karl and I started as best friends in kindergarten and have been stuck together ever since (á lá Stockholm), but legend says it actually started at a reading group at the local library when we were 2. We've been competitive about almost everything imaginable due to Karl's fierce competitiveness. While we've done plenty of dumb things, like making homemade bike ramps or creating crazy pool games, our shared love for racing, being active, stupid jokes, and all things with wheels persist.

Michael Matrisciano

I met Karl through a mutual friend while he was going to school at American. The first time Karl and I really hung out, we raced the Nurburgring on Forza (iykyk) for a good hour straight trying to set the best lap time while our company watched. I may have been in the doghouse after that, but we had a great time and it started a friendship that'll last forever - I'd say it was worth it. Karl got me into one of my favorite new hobbies, cycling, which I am grateful for, but my wallet is not.

Daniel Ward

Karl was the first friend I made when I moved to DC thanks to the maze that is American's business school. We both got lost during orientation and came together to find where we were going. We share an appreciation in gin and tonics, the Premier League (shame he supports ARSEnal - from a Chelsea fan) and F1. Karl introduced me to F1 and if memory serves, he pulled the best prank ever by encouraging me to support Ferrari, so now every race week I am in pain.

Foster Johnson

I’m Alexis’ oldest little brother. I met Karl when I was staying with Alexis in DC and almost poisoned him with bread. We’ve spent several holidays together now, and I like to think we both appreciate good food and wine, but he never updates his Vivino, so who really knows, lol. I currently live in Lexington with my parents and am slowly losing my mind over the warm weather in the best way, because it means I can finally be outside taking care of my plants. Karl and I also share a deep love for plants, the kind that makes people wonder if we’ve actually started talking to them. I’m excited to meet all of you, and this is going to be an awesome wedding!

Alexander Berg

I’m Alexis’s baby brother and the pride and joy of the Berg family. I first met Karl when he came to meet our whole family one time for dinner in Raleigh and now we share a bathroom when he comes to visit which leads to some pre-bed chat. We are lackies for Alexis and my mother as they send us together on a plethora of errands to fulfill their every whim. I’m currently a freshman at UNC Chapel Hill like both my siblings, but breaking from family tradition, I’m pre-med and hope to be a pediatrician one day. 

Anthony Berg

Rome is technically Alexis’s cousin, but we let Karl claim him as his junior groomsman because they immediately bonded over football (the soccer kind). Rome lives in Bangkok. He is an absolute beast on the field and has no fear when it comes to making bold predictions or taking shots (on goal and in conversation). He’s a goofball in the best way—always dancing, joking, or pulling some kind of stunt and keeping his cousins on their toes—but he’s also incredibly smart and has a huge heart. Whether he’s scoring goals or doing weird Fortnite dances in the middle of a serious moment, Rome brings the energy wherever he goes, and Karl and Alexis are so pumped to have him in the wedding!

Lexington Style BBQ!

Some of you may know that Lexington is famous for its BBQ, hosting the annual Barbecue Festival in October each year and bosting several restaurants, each with their own spin on Lexington style BBQ. Every Lexington native will have strong opinions about the BBQ in town, but here are our favorites.

The BBQ Center is the oldest spot in Lexington that still cooks on pits, and you can taste the difference! Their chopped plates and sandwiches are the best! Plus some hushpuppies, a Cheerwine, and their world-renowned Banana Splits!

Affectionately referred to by locals as Honeymonk, this Lexington BBQ restaurant has been serving authentic Western-style Carolina pork BBQ since 1962. We like their chopped BBQ plate (dark meat of course) with a Cheerwine!

Visit the art gallery of a famous Lexington painter, Bob Timberlake, known for his landscapes and snowy farm scenes. Hours: W-Sa 10:00am-3:00pm

In downtown Welcome, near Center Church where the wedding ceremony will take place, is the RCR Museum and Gift Shop. If you're a NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt fan, we recommend this stop! Hours: T-F 9am-5pm; Sa 9am-3pm

For a nice hike or a picnic, visit this 100-acre park in Western Davidson County, about a 20-minte drive from the hotel. They also have an 18-hole Disc Golf course with discs for rent from park staff. Hours: Every day 8am-7pm

Boone's Cave Park

There are many access points to High Rock Lake, but depending on what you want to do, look into Boat rentals, kayak and SUP rentals, designated swimming areas, and other activities.
