Hiking
Pololū Valley Lookout
One of our favorite hikes! Must be comfortable navigating more steep terrain.
Captain Cook Monument Trail
Recommended for more advanced hikers only. Pack snorkel gear to swim in the bay once you get there.
Waterfalls
ʻAkaka Falls State Park
This waterfall is taller than Niagara Falls! It's fairly easy to access with a 0.4 mile paved trail. There is a small fee to access.
Rainbow Falls
This is a very easy access waterfall that does not require any hiking.
The Inn at Kulaniapia Falls
Requires a day pass to access. Great waterfall for easy swimming, paddleboarding, or kayaking. If you are feeling very adventurous, you can even book a guided waterfall rappelling tour.
Umauma Falls
Requires a day pass to access. If you are feeling adventurous, you can book ziplining or ATV tours.
Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park
The volcano has been erupting on/off since December 2025. If it's going off, it's a must see; however, plan to head there as soon as you get notification it's going off as the eruptions don't last long.
