עוֹד יִשָׁמַע בְּעַרֵי יְהוּדָה

וּבְחוּצוֹת יְרוּשָלַיִם

קוֹל שָשוֹן וְקוֹל שִמְחָה

קוֹל חָתָן וְקוֹל כָּלָה


Transliteration:

Od yishama b'arei Yehudah

uv'ḥutzot Yerushalayim.

Kol sason v'kol simḥa

Kol ḥatan v'kol kalah.


Translation:

Yet again there shall be heard in the cities of Judah

and in the streets of Jerusalem​

the voice of joy and the voice of gladness,​ the voice of the bridegroo​m and the voice of the bride.

(Jerem​iah 33:10-11)


When is it sung:

As the ḥatan is being danced to the kallah for the Bedeken

As the ḥatan and kallah are led to the yiḥud room after the Ḥuppah ceremony

אִם אֶשְׁכָּחֵךְ יְרוּשָׁלָיִם, תִּשְׁכַּח יְמִינִי

תִּדְבַּק לְשׁוֹנִי לְחִכִּי אִם לֹא אֶזְכְּרֵכִי

אִם לֹא אַעֲלֶה אֶת יְרוּשָׁלַֽיִם עַל רֹאשׁ שִׂמְחָתִי


Transliteration:

Im eshkaḥeḥ, Yerushalayim, tishkaḥ yemini.

Tidbak lishoni, liḥiki,

Im lo ezkereḥi,

im lo a'a'leh, et Yerushalayim al rosh simḥati.


Translation:

If I forget you, Jerusalem, let my right hand forget how to work. Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth, if I do not remember you, if I do not set Jerusalem above my chiefest joy

(Psalms 137:5-6)

Before the glass is broken at the end of the Ḥuppah ceremony (sung by the ḥazzan (cantor))
