Kevin and Alicia met in Chicago in June of 2018. These two met on the traditional dating app and had a fun-filled first date at Half Acre Brewery…followed by a BBQ Street Festival...followed by a romantic ending to the night watching the NBA championship game at a local dive bar. Funny enough, the winning team of this game, the Golden State Warriors, foreshadowed their adventure moving to the beautiful foggy city of San Francisco! Since their first date, life has been full of fun and adventure for these two. View below some of their favorite memories and places - from Midwest to out West and everywhere in between!

Our Story

Kevin and Alicia got engaged in Santa Barbara on April 16th, 2022 on a surprise weekend trip! ❤️

Santa Barbara is a special place to them as this has always been their favorite city to visit while living on the west coast! The beach Kevin proposed to Alicia at, Butterfly Beach, is in Montecito, a very cute small town outside of Santa Barbara where they had biked to many times before. The day was truly perfect as Kevin continued the surprise with a picnic on the beach (to toast, picture below!) followed by dinner at their favorite restaurant in the area, The Lark!

We recommend booking accommodations as soon as possible - as hotel rooms and rental properties can become booked up in advance. Feel free to reach out to Kevin or Alicia if you have any questions about the island or where to stay!

The Sanctuary Hotel at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort offers deluxe accommodations, spa, resort pool and beach access, preferred reservations for dining, tennis and golf discounts as well as complimentary on-island transportation, and much more. Guests who wish to book should call the number provided, ask for The Sanctuary Reservations, and use our code to receive a 10% discount. This will also be the location of the wedding ceremony, reception, after party as well as the farewell brunch. We do not have a room block but you can you use our discount Code - Celentano/Berens Wedding or 19942 for 10% savings

The Sanctuary Hotel

Another great option is staying in a Kiawah villa or home! You can rent a one bedroom or multiple bedroom villa, or a larger home on Kiawah though Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Reserving a Kiawah Island home or villa through the resort offers benefits on the island - resort pool and beach access, preferred reservations for dining, tennis, spa and golf discounts as well as complimentary on-island transportation, and much more. We have a villa block for one and two bedroom villas! When calling reservations you can book one of the villas we have reserved at a special rate. Villas in the block are in a great location central to wedding activities and the beach! Just mention our wedding on the phone that you would like to book under our villa block. Villa prices start around ~$200/night. Guests who wish to book a 3+ bedroom villa or individual home can also use our code for a discounted rate. The East Beach area is strongly recommended for convenience to the beach and wedding location. We highly recommend calling reservations in order to guarantee the discounted rate or to be part of our Villa block. Kiawah Island Villas and Home Rentals

Kiawah Island is 33 miles from the Charleston airport and is about a 45 minute drive. Usually there is no issue using a ride-hailing app to get from the airport out to the island or car rentals can be picked up from the airport. We would highly recommend renting a car if you are not staying at the resort as Uber/Lyft is not available on the island itself. The second half of the drive to Kiawah is beautiful if you arrive while it is light out! Lots of live oak trees and Spanish moss (We recommend checking out the Angel Oak tree on the way in if you are renting a car!). If you are staying at The Sanctuary Resort or book a villa through Kiawah Island Golf Resort, you can also arrange transportation to and from the airport through the concierge.

Charleston International Airport

Once on the island, guests have access to the complimentary Kiawah Island shuttles if staying at the resort (villa/home rentals or The Sanctuary), which can take you to and from any location on the island (including Mingo Point). Call number above and the shuttle will pick you up within 15 minutes of your call. General shuttle times around the resort are from 7am -11pm.

Bring your own chairs and towels and head out to your closest boardwalk to find Kiawah's wide, calm beach. Or use the link to rent chairs, umbrellas and towels if you would like. They will set up chairs at the boardwalk closest to where you are staying.

The Beach

You can rent a bike for 1-7 days and it will be delivered to where you are staying. We highly recommended biking around the island on the ample bike paths. It is the best way to get to the beach and to see the island with all it has to offer. There are many other bike companies that offer the same services. These paths are also wonderful for walking, running and enjoying the wildlife.

Bike Riding

There are multiple public courses available for guests to play a round or two. Please use the link to see the different courses and reserve a tee time. Kiawah Island Resort offers a discount for these courses if you chose to rent your accommodations from them. A few of the favorites are Osprey Point , Cougar Point and Turtle Point golf courses, and of course there is the famous Ocean Course!

GOLF

If you are staying through Kiawah Island Resort, you can check out the Night Heron Park and The Sanctuary Hotel pools. There is a kids pool with water fountains and slides as well as an adult pool with lots of lounge chairs. Food and drinks are available poolside.

Pool

Kiawah Island Resort offers rentals for bikes as well as kayaks and paddle boards if you want to get on the water. You do not need to be renting from the resort to rent equipment from them. You can go to Mingo Point to rent a kayak for a few hours or request that your kayaks and paddleboards be delivered to your accommodations so you can explore the island from the many public boat landings. There are also lots of places to fish and crab off of public docks and in the surf. The convenience store as you enter the island sells bait and gear you may need to do so.

KAYAKING & PADDLEBOARDING

Kiawah has lots of wildlife to see. Visit the Nature Center at Night Heron Park to see some of the animals on the island and beyond! The Nature Center is a fun biking destination for families and adults young at heart. Night Heron Park also has a playground, soccer field, basketball court and a nine hole frisbee golf course. You can rent frisbee golf equipment inside the Nature Center.

We recommend biking to Marsh Island Park where there is a lookout tower over the marsh! (You may also see some fiddler crabs!)

General Island Transportation

We recommend renting bikes to get around the island during the day (you can also ride on the beach!). Additionally, there is a complimentary on-island shuttle bus offered to guests who are staying at one of the official Kiawah Island Resort villas or homes, or at the Sanctuary Hotel. It can be accessed by calling 843-768-2900 and should call 15 minutes in advance of travel time). The daily shuttle times are from 7am to 11pm and are easy to get on from The Sanctuary.
