2011

Alison and Leo both grew up in Fremont, CA, they went to the same school since junior high and even shared the same geometry, PE, pre-calculus, and calculus classes. Although they knew of each other for years, it was not until their senior year of high school that their love for one another took shape.

Their story begins in 2011 with the “innocent” sale of a graphing calculator. Leo sat behind Alison one day in Mr. Karmali’s calculus class and offered to sell her a calculator at a price she couldn’t resist. Little did they know this was a sine of their relationship to come – and let’s just say things started adding up from there.

In March 2011, Alison and Leo weren’t “official” yet, so Alison tested the waters by asking Leo to ditch school and spend a day together in Oakland. Little did Leo know, Alison had gone to Fenton’s the night before to drop off paper cutouts she’d made to ask him to the Sadie Hawkings Dance. Fortunately, he said yes and their friendship continued...

On April 3, 2011, Leo finally mustered up the courage to ask Alison to officially be his girlfriend, and they’ve been together ever since (she should have known this would take a while).

Below are some photos from what feels like a lifetime ago, the year it all began – prom, graduation, Leo’s 18th birthday, camping, skiing, and the first of many Florence and the Machine concerts. Fast forward to another month of April but this time it feels Oaxacan.

All wedding weekend festivities will take place in the Historic City Center (Centro Histórico) of Oaxaca. Below is information about flights, transportation and getting around Oaxaca. If you have any travel related questions or would like help booking flights or private transportation to/from the airport in advance please don't hesitate to reach out and we can help arrange that for you.

Getting to oaxaca

Flights 

To get to the Centro Histórico, we recommend flying into <a href="https://oaxaca-airport.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Oaxaca Airport (OAX)</a> which is small and easy to navigate.

transportation 

Once you land you can either (1) take a taxi or (2) hire private transportation from the OAX airport to Centro Histórico, which takes about 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. Note: There is no Uber in Oaxaca. 1. Taking a TaxiWhen you land, exit the airport and go to the official taxi counter.o Tell them your hotel name.o Pay a fixed rateo You’ll receive a ticket and your assigned driver.o Estimated time: 20–25 minutes to Centro. getting around oaxaca 

Oaxaca is a perfect city for walking short and medium distances. Unless you plan to venture far outside Centro Histórico during the wedding weekend we strongly recommend not renting your own car and just exploring the city by foot. Parking is limited in the Centro Histórico and it is almost always faster (and more enjoyable) to explore the town via foot or call a taxi to get around (yellow taxis are safe, affordable, and cash only).

Oaxaca has plenty of amazing places to stay all right in the heart of the City Center. Below is a list of our favorite hotels we've stayed at during our past visits. There's also plenty of great air b n bs in town. La Quinta Real An ex-convent founded by Fray Domingo de Betanzos in the 16th Century. Also where our wedding ceremony will be held! Casa Oaxaca Located in the heart of Oaxaca and owned by chef Alejandro Ruiz who also owns and operates the Michelin star restaurant Casa Oaxaca, located just a few blocks away from the hotel. Grand Fiesta Americana Oaxaca A nice chain hotel that blends traditional Oaxacan style with a slight western vibe (think a Oaxacan twist on the Marriott). As many of you know, we absolutely LOVE Mexico, and after first visiting Oaxaca in 2021, it quickly became one of our favorite places to come back to. We went to the botanical gardens during our first visit to Oaxaca in 2021 and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Located in the heart of the city center, this is an absolute must see if you have the time!
