What will the weather be like?
In April, Oaxaca experiences hot, sunny, and dry weather, marking the end of the dry season, with average daytime highs around 86-88°F (30-31°C) and cooler nights dropping to about 55-58°F (13-14°C). So be prepared for a mix of warm and cold and pack layers!
do people speak english in oaxaca?
Most establishments in the city center, including hotels, restaurants, and shops, have English-speaking staff. The further out from the city center you get the less likely it is that people will speak English but people in Oaxaca are very friendly and will always do their best to try to understand you and communicate in any way they can.
Do I need to bring cash?
We recommend bringing some Mexican pesos with you so you have cash when you land. You can also withdraw at ATMs in the Centro or at exchange centers. Three exchange center locations are listed below:
Locations:
1. Macedonio Alcalá 201 Intl 105. Andador turístico,
2. C. de Manuel García Vigil 106-interior j, 68000 Oaxaca de Juárez
3. Hidalgo No. 916 Centro Sct Oaxaca, 68101 Oaxaca de Juárez
Do places accept debit and credit cards?
Yes! Almost all brick and mortar shops, restaurants, cafes and hotels in the Centro accept debit and credit cards. Be sure to check with your bank in advance to confirm if there are any international travel fees.
Street vendors, markets and taxis typically only accept cash.
Should I tip in Oaxaca?
Most typically tip 10-15% at restaurants. For street vendors and taxis rounding up is perfectly fine.
Do I need to bring an adapter?
No! Mexico uses the same Type A (two flat pins) and Type B (three pins, including ground) plugs and a similar 110V-127V voltage range as the U.S., meaning your standard chargers for phones, laptops, etc., will usually work without adapters or converters.
