I spent a majority of my life under the assumption that I would go through it alone. I’ve always been very independent, and working through life’s trials and tribulations alone, and I was always content with this. Of course I was never opposed to finding someone to spend my life with, I just never thought I would, I always didn’t think I would meet or deserve someone as amazing as my beautiful fiancé, Alley Hart.

Rewind back to my junior year of high school, I was nowhere near the more mellow, laid back man I am now. I was a ball of energy who looked forward to gym class every day. No shame in my game, gym class hero, and my goal every day was to win at whatever we played, and be the sweatiest dude at lunch the very next period. Shameless. However, the urge to compete was not my only motivation for gym class time, it was always the unbelievably attractive senior blonde chick in the class. Alley was the only girl in the class, but to her credit, she was fearless in competing with the guys. She didn’t sit on the sides and wait for class to end, she was in the mix with the guys. Something even back then I thought was bizarre. I mean beautiful blonde senior cheerleader caring about gym and wanting to win? Sounds made up. I’d be lying if I said this didn’t intrigue me. Even then, I knew she was different. Every so often we would exchange pleasantries and small talk, but no joke, I thought she was the best looking girl in the whole school, and I was nervous as heck. I mean come on, senior, cheerleader, smoking hot blond that dated older guys? In the small occasions we would talk, she was always so nice, and always seemed interested in what I had to say, which was beyond shocking because I don’t think I could have ever had anything interesting to say. So she’s beautiful, caring and competitive?? I had no shot, she was way out of my league. Fast forward to now, I still feel that same way. Not sure what she sees in me.

About two years ago, I was trying to find ways to fill my boring covid nights swiping through bumble, not expecting much, then my beautiful fiancés face pops up. Truly I believed this was a catfish. How is this girl single??? I mean no one has wrapped her up yet? Couldn’t be true. Sure enough, it was. Without embarrassing her, I will say her opening line wasn’t great and spewed uninterested, but I was undeterred, and spent the next 2 years talking to her every single day.

With all of the aforementioned attributes my fiancé has, the one that truly won me over was her ability to listen, and change as a person. As all relationships do, we had our ups and downs. But we always worked at making changes, both big and small. The unrelenting love she has made me feel daily is something I never thought I would find. Even at my worst, she’s right there. Maybe pressing my buttons a little, but always giving me love and care that I know I would never find anywhere else. She pushes me to be a better man in all aspects of life. From opening my eyes to believe I could leave a job that made me miserable, sticking with me through dead end interviews, to celebrating and supporting me when I found myself in my dream field. Even listening to my gross work stories. When I think of a true partner in crime, best friend, and person, Alley Hart is more than I could have dreamed of.

I try to be a live in the moment person, and not get too excited about future endeavors, but when I think of my life with Alley, I exude excitement in ways I could not have imagined. The girl of my dreams, high school crush and my ride or die (she gets it) is going to be by my side forever and always. Man, if high school me could see me now.
