Silcox Hut was built in 1939 as the upper terminal of the original Magic Mile chairlift. It also was intended as a warming hut and starting point for climbers going to the summit of Mt Hood. Silcox Hut sits at 7000ft elevation (1000ft above Timberline Lodge) and is only accessible by snowcat, snowshoes, or on skis in the winter!
Yes! It is. At 7000ft there will be 5% less effective oxygen. This is completely safe, but you may feel it a bit! Due to the elevation, there's some things to consider.
Hydration: You will feel your respiration rate going up slightly and your body will lose water much faster than it would at sea level. Please make sure leading up until the wedding and at the wedding you are drinking more water than usual!
Alcohol: Hydration is even more important if you are going to drink. Please consider matching your drinking with water, and doing what you need to stay hydrated throughout the night. You'll feel the alcohol quicker with less of it! Don't think you can drink as much as you do at sea level. :)
We will be traveling from Timberline Lodge to Silcox Hut by Snowcat. Please wear appropriate shoes for walking across snow & using stairs.
Average temperature in April is 28 degrees F, so prepare for a true mountain experience! Luckily, the hut itself is super warm and cozy, and warm attire is only needed to get there and get home. Please plan on bringing a warm coat & shoes you can walk on snow with. Additionally, there will be stairs to get in and out of the Snowcats.
There is a changing area at Silcox Hut if you would like to change and store shoes there. The floors are made up of big uneven stones in the hut, but feel free to brave it with some tall heels if you'd like.
As for the wedding, the inside of the hut is very warm and cozy. Dress code is wedding formal attire.
As much as we would love to have everyone celebrate with us and per the venue's recommendation, we are requesting that all guests are 21+.
Please enjoy date night on us! Thanks for the understanding.
As it is such a small & intimate space, we request that phones are entirely put away and out of sight during the ceremony. We have some lovely photographers booked to capture the entire night for us, and we want their photos to remain phone-free.
As for the reception, please don't worry too much about capturing photos, but feel free to take some pictures if you like.
Due to very limited space, we are only able to accommodate guests formally named on the invitation. We have invited everyone who can officially fit into the space, and do not have room for even one more.
Due to the size of the venue & transportation constraints, the venue requests that all gifts either come virtually or are not brought up to the hut.
If you want to send us something, we are asking for contributions to a Honeymoon fund in lieu of physical gifts. Thank you for thinking of us!
Over the years, we've climbed a ton of mountains together across Washington, and have fallen in love with each other in the process. These are beautiful places that we haven't been able to share with you, our family and friends, outside of photographs. For our wedding, we want to bring everyone we care about into the environments we care so deeply about in a safe & easy way. Silcox Hut is the best way to bring you all here and let you spend time on the flank of a very famous PNW volcano, even if it's just one state away from our home.
You'll have to come join us & find out :)
