McMenamin’s is a vast empire of revamped historic hotels made into breweries and restaurants. This is quintessential Oregon at its finest and an experience you don’t want to miss, if the chance presents itself. Various McMenamin’s are spread across the state and you may just want to detour over to one as you visit. We’ve shared many nights, pints and good laughs ourselves at McMenamin’s throughout the years. Word of warning - they love hoppy and heavy beers that like to light a fire inside rather quickly. Side effects of McMenamin’s includes giddiness, dizziness, loss of inhibition, bro hugs, “I love you, man’s,” talking with your hands, over-indulgence on sentimental indie folk rock, coaster thefting. Take a look at this great map of locations - but here are a few within 1.5 hours. Hotel Oregon (McMinnville, 30 min); Boon's Treasury and Thompson Brewery & Public House (Salem, 30 min); Grand Lodge (Forest Grove, 1 hr); Edgefield (Portland, 1.5 hours).
Here are some of our favorite local outdoor destinations in and around the Dallas area.
If you enjoy getting outdoors and looking for wildlife, consider a visit to Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge, just outside of Dallas! With over 230 recorded species of birds as well as coyote, Fender's blue butterfly, Western pond turtle and much much more, you are sure to see something more interesting than Kevin in a wine-stained tuxedo wandering the Cudmore property like an orphaned fawn.
Enjoy walking the meandering pathway of the Dallas City Park or be a rebel and play a round of disc golf along their 18 hole course! Flip flops and backwards baseball hat required for play.
Nestled by the Dallas City Park, this beautiful park offers visitors a chance to admire native northwest plants and trees. On the south and east borders, the arboretum nestles against the gently flowing Rickreall Creek creating a rich riparian habitat that complements the many species of plants and trees. Most importantly, come decompress by the creek and reflect on all the poor decisions you made at the wedding the night before.
