Q + A

Why Portugal?

Aaron's parents moved to Portugal the summer of 2020. Aaron and Alyssa have visited a handful of times since and have fallen further in love with the country and each other each visit.

So, are you either of you Portuguese?

Nope! Just excited to share the country with our loved ones!

What's the weather like in the Douro Valley in July?

It can be hot and sunny during the daytime, but will usually cool off as the sun begins to set. We recommend wearing light colors in natural fabrics to help keep you cool throughout the day. Having a light jacket ready for the evening may be wise if you are easily chilly.

What kind of shoes should I bring?

We recommend bringing shoes that will be comfortable wearing on uneven surfaces. It is very common for paths and courtyards in Portugal to be paved with cobblestones.

Should I rent a car?

Renting a car will certainly give you the most freedom to move about, but you could take the train or a bus from Porto to the Douro Valley. There are taxis in Vila Real and Peso da Regua that you can hail to take you around the Douro Valley Region. We highly recommend that guests take taxis to and from the wedding. The roads in the Douro Valley are twisty, poorly lit mountain roads and can be dangerous for unfamiliar drivers at night. We want you to have a great evening and get back to your accommodations safely!

Should I make reservations to places (restaurants, vineyards, etc.) around the Douro Valley?

July is within the high season for the purveyors of the Douro Valley, and many places are small, family run institutions. We recommend that you call ahead and make reservations for anything that you're dead set on doing!
