Amanda moved to Frisco the summer of 2009. A week before school started she went to freshman orientation. KJ was goofing off wandering the halls of Wakeland High School with his friends, when he spotted “the girl in the yellow shirt.” It was love at first sight for KJ.

A couple weeks went by and KJ had yet to introduce himself. One Friday night football game at Pizza Hut Park, KJ finally saw his opportunity to talk to “the girl in the yellow shirt.” Amanda thought KJ was really funny and instantly connected with him. From then on, they became best friends. They talked every day throughout those 4 years of high school. Whether they were texting or having one of their regular “car talks,” the two never missed an opportunity to hang out.

Although KJ enjoyed their friendship, he never wanted to be just Amanda’s friend. He wanted something more. Year after year, he found different ways to let her know just how much she meant to him but kept finding himself in the friend zone. As for Amanda, he was her closest friend, the one person she could always turn to. It wasn’t necessarily the love story KJ had dreamed of, but the friendship they built became a story in itself—a foundation of unbreakable trust and loyalty that held them close, even through the years apart.

Amanda and KJ remained friends throughout college, while both dating other people. Post college, in 2019, they attempted to take that next step together. However, Amanda was living in Oklahoma City and KJ was living in Dallas. The timing and the long distance just wasnt right. After ending things, they didnt talk for 2 years.

One day in February of 2022, KJ reached out to Amanda. They were both single and living in Dallas at the same time. They started out by rebuilding their friendship, fell in love, and have been inseparable ever since. On October 20, 2022, KJ officially asked Amanda to be his girlfriend. After 13 years, KJ had FINALLY escaped the friend zone from “the girl in the yellow shirt!!!” He went on to propose in January of 2024, marking the start of this exciting new chapter. God’s timing for Amanda and KJ was perfect.
