Annapolis is situated just across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge from our wedding venue located on Kent Island. You can take a guided tour through the US Naval Academy, hop on a scooter and head to the maritime hub of Eastport, or explore the historic streets of the capital of Maryland for the day.
Many unique sites and events related to the Naval Academy are well worth exploring. A campus tour will provide much history and can be organized through the Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center. Be sure to check out the unique gift shop while you are there, and if you time it correctly, you can see the midshipmen's Noon Formation to give you an authentic taste of life as a midshipman. If you prefer, do a self-guided academy tour at your own pace. The US Naval Academy Museum is a beautiful display of artifacts, and the Naval Academy Chapel is a sight to behold with its impressive dome and colorful stained-glass windows.
As you start from the State Capital on Church Circle and make your way down Main Street to the City Dock, youll discover dozens of unique, locally-owned fashion boutiques and specialty gift shops tucked in between art galleries, pubs, restaurants, and historic inns. This culminates into Ego Alley at the waters edge, which isnt an alley in the traditional sense of the word; rather than a walkway, its a narrow waterway that spills out into Spa Creek. The name Ego Alley comes from the queue of expensive boats that parade through the waterway on evenings and weekends. You cant go wrong grabbing food and refreshments at any of the establishments here. For happy hour or a night out, we recommend checking out Pussers Caribbean Grill or Dock Street Bar & Grill for a fun evening.
Looking for a day of fun in the sun with your family this summer? Sandy Point State Park could be just what you had in mind. The 786-acre treasure on the shore right across the bridge from the wedding venue offers a little something for everyone. Individuals are invited to swim, fish, crab, picnic, and launch their boats from the park from 7:00 a.m. until sunset seven days a week.
Help raise the sails, steer the boat, or simply sit back and relax as the schooner sails from the historic Annapolis waterfront, past the Naval Academy and cruises into the Chesapeake Bay. The sailing company's two wooden 74-foot schooners, Woodwind and Woodwind II, provide daily cruises as well as sunset and specialty cruises featuring everything from historical Annapolis to holiday themes. The two-hour daily cruise sets sail four times a day.
Watermark Tours provides numerous Annapolis cruises, anywhere from sightseeing cruises to a daylong cruise from the Chesapeake Bay to St. Michaels, another historical town located across the Chesapeake Bay on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Boat tours can last from 40 minutes to 7 1/2 hours.
The pristine William Paca House & Garden is an immaculately restored 18th-century Georgian mansion, and it was the home of a young lawyer, William Paca, who eventually became one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and the governor of Maryland. Along with a tour of the house, visitors should make time to wander around the carefully manicured 2-acre garden. The house and garden are open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
Kent Island is the largest island in the Chesapeake and is home to the third oldest permanent English settlement in the US established in 1631.
