For those of you coming from out of state . We are so excited to have you join us in one of our favorite places - Homer, Alaska.

Homer, Alaska: Experience the Charm of Kachemak Bay's Seaside Town (homeralaska.org)

As you can imagine, Alaska is a popular place in the summer, and there are endless options to explore depending on your interests, budgets, and timeline, etc. While the wedding may still seem far away, we suggest planning your trip as early as possible in order to find available housing, rental cars, or whatever activities you may want to do during your stay.

Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is 115 miles (4.5 hours with construction) from Homer and located in Anchorage, Alaska. There are smaller planes that fly into Homer from Anchorage if your schedule is tight. The drive is beautiful, next to the base of mountains with the ocean a stone's throw away. As is most of Alaska she is beautiful and dangerous. There is some two-lane stretches of road and many fishermen have been on very little sleep so defensive driving is key to avoid any incidents! You can often spot beluga whales, mountain goats, moose, bears, and eagles if you are lucky. A good indication that something cool is out there, is a lot of vehicles parked on the side of the road.

We have a lot of great recommendations for the drive:

- Birch & Alder: coffee, bagel, scones, or anything :)

- Girdwood Brewery or just Girdwood in general

Everything you need to know about Girdwood, Alaska

- Alaska Conservation Center: See Alaska's Big Game Guaranteed

- Cooper Landing Brewery or Princess Lodge

There are many different housing options around the state; however, this is peak tourist/fishing season. We recommend AirBNB and VRBO due to the variety of housing options at different price points. You have to book early to get the best ones. Hotels were built couple decades back so probably not the best place you ever stayed! If you are feeling more adventurous, there are some camper van companies based out of Anchorage. Just make sure you look at campsite options as Anchorage is pretty limited.

If you plan to get a rental car, which would be the easiest method to get around, we recommend looking into this soon as there is a limited supply of vehicles during the busy season.

Alaska weather is very unpredictable and can range from really hot to pretty cold (especially for out-of-state folks). We tend to get a lot of rain, but that usually doesn't stop Alaskans from playing out! This will be an outdoor wedding, so please bring layers in the event weather is not in our favor. This is also important if you plan to do any hiking, rafting, or fishing. You could end up looking like you are dressed for winter or like you are vacationing in California.

Thank you for making the trip to join us as we celebrate our commitment to each other in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
