Eight thousand and twelve kilometers separate the city of Freiburg from Caracas. Many seemingly random occurrences had to take place over the last two decades in order to join Andrea and Chris in a sunny city that will forever hold a special place in their hearts. Some people say that if you wish for something hard enough and if you visualize a place, a person, and an event often enough, over time you will attract those things to you. Perhaps this is how this love story came to be.

You see, Chris has always been a curious and restless boy. He’s always had an interest for geography and cultures; languages and traditions. It was not too long before he found himself in love with the Spanish language and the Latin culture. His curiosity, fueled by his incomparable ambition led him to study and dominate Spanish. During his studies, he was offered the opportunity to study abroad in San Diego. He sure didn’t let that opportunity slip away!

If anyone could match Chris’s curiosity and restlessness, it would be our girl: Andrea. Now, Andrea has always had unconventional interests. Perhaps the one that would stand out the most is her passion for soccer (football, actually); but more specifically, German football (yes, football). This girl even had German flags hanging from her walls, and it was her dream to visit this country and learn everything about it. As many of you know, the situation in Venezuela forced her and her family to leave. But not to Germany! No. It was while she was living in Mexico that she decided to spend a weekend in San Diego with her friends. Needless to say, the rest is history.

Chris and Andrea met in San Diego through the most unusual friends. His friend was from Jordan, her friend was from Peru and they were roommates at the time. What are the chances?

Andrea came home that weekend very sick. As she entered her mom’s bedroom in tears, her laptop rang. It was Chris. He thought she was still in town and wanted another chance to see her again. Mom took Andrea’s face in her hands and whispered: “you see? Even in your darkest moments, you are able to attract another soul to you”. Again, what are the chances? Moms always know, don’t they?

Andrea and Chris visited each other in Mexico and San Diego, crossing borders like the world was their backyard. Their friendship turned to love, and their love grew stronger as time went by. Soon, Chris’s responsibilities called him back home and Andrea’s ambition to further her career drew her to Germany; and not to any city in Germany. She applied and enrolled in a program in the exact same city where Chris was born, raised, and ready to move back to. I insist, what are the chances?

After all these random occurrences took place, we find ourselves at a crucial point of their love story. Chris and Andrea are now ready to seal their fates, commit to each other and face together whatever else life challenges them with.
