Hello friend!
We wanted to send along a bunch of info for the wedding and Traverse City to help you make plans for June! (Whenever you so choose to make plans for June!) Below is information on getting there / where to stay / and things to do throughout the week. We're so excited to have you there!
Getting To Traverse City:
There are 2 flight options:
- There is an airport in Traverse City so you can buy a ticket (some direct flights, but most likely you will have to lay over in Chicago or Detroit) and fly into the city.
- A cheaper option, if you want to be like the real Michiganders, is to fly into Detroit airport and drive the 3.5-4 hours up north to Traverse city.
Where to Stay in Traverse City:
We are staying in the Island view cottages. There is a minimum of 4 nights if you would like to stay in one of these but you get to hang out on a private beach with us if you do! There are also several air-bnbs within walking distance of these cottages in the downtown area.
For Hotels, we recommend the Bayshore resort (right next door to the cottages) the Delmar (next to the Bay shore), or The Best Western (down the street a little bit.)
There's also a lot of Airbnb's in the area.
We do recommend booking accommodations sooner than later as it's a pretty busy tourist spot, and THE CHERRY FESTIVAL STARTS the next week.
How To Get Around Traverse City:
For the wedding itself - we'll have a bus picking people up from set destinations in the downtown area. For the other days, a free bus called The Bayline runs through Traverse City from 6 AM to 9 PM every 15 minutes or so. It should be easy enough to get places! We'll have more specific plans for transporting people to places they need to be as we get closer.
Things To Do In Traverse City:
Wedding week activities: As detailed on the wedding invite we'd love to have you join us a few days earlier in the week if you're free / interested in some Michigan fun!
- Tuesday 6/23 we'll be going to the Sleeping Bear Dunes - Named the “Most Beautiful Place in America” on ABC’s Good Morning America!
- Wednesday 6/24 we'll be either going on a boat (on a GREAT LAKE) or to one of the many wineries on the Old Mission Peninsula (or both!)
- Thursday 6/25 there will be welcome drinks at a location TBD! It'll be fun!
- Friday 6/26 is the wedding, so, uh, please be there by then.
Other things to do in Traverse City: There's plenty of kayaking, restaurants, breweries, nature, wineries, and a whole store where you can buy cherries in any form you can imagine. (Salsa? Queso? They've got a cherry version!) It's been called a TOP TRAVEL DESTINATION by this random website.
If you can't join us for the wedding, you will be missed! We do ask if you could reply to the RSVP with the 'no' to help us plan, it'd be very appreciated! And if you CAN come, also RSVP as soon as possible! Just RSVP.
More information / RSVP can be found on THE KNOT.
Woooo - please reach out with any and all questions!
- Andy & Matt!
