Most people know this story already, but for those of you that don't, this is how it happened:
Christopher is not always the most sociable of people as lots of you will attest to; he is even less sociable, and approachable, when he's had a bad day, as was the case the first time I met him. It really is a minor miracle that we somehow managed to strike up a conversation that first chance meeting...
My day, had been somewhat more enjoyable. It was my birthday, and for only the second time in my life (my birthday is in November) I had managed to spend some of the afternoon on the beach with friends, in the sunshine. The day got even better when on the way back from the beach, I spied Rudy: I was in love instantly. Irrespective of how mental it was going to make me look, I was determined to go and pet him - this is Rudy I should add! Hurrying my pace, my friend Frankie and I hastened towards the dogs, who happened by this point to be directly outside the entrance and exit of our building. Had I been paying attention to the owner - which I wasn't - I might have noticed the furrowed brow and glare he gave us as we launched towards the dogs with enthusiasm. Without really waiting for a reply, we were already fussing the dogs, much to Chris' annoyance( it very quickly transpired). I think his opening gambit was, "Can we not do this in the middle of the road?" Upon noticing the rather sarcastic tone, I quickly moved to the path to continue to stroke Rudy, who by this point was lying on his side having his belly rubbed...
I would like to say that I can remember the rest of the conversation - I can't. I wish I could say when it was Chris started being more pleasant, (and thus less of a dick in my opinion), but I also can't; all I can remember is that somehow a conversation started up about Rudy and what breed his was and before I knew it, I had given Chris my number so he could get in touch if he needed dog walkers, which Frankie and I were delighted about.
I guess the rest is irrelevant, other than to say we have Rudy to thank for playing cupid, and Frankie to thank for being my dog wing man!
