Our Story

Our story really started back in 2018, when Max had just moved to California for college and we met for the first time. We stayed in touch on and off for a couple years, and then in January 2020, everything fell into place. It all kicked off thanks to one very muddy night. My maid of honor, Emily, and I were doing what we always loved—driving down an old back road in my Jeep, the one we used to take out almost every night to go mudding or rescue anyone who got themselves stuck. There was nothing more fun than being two girls in a cute little Jeep pulling out all the “tough” outdoorsy guys. And sure enough, that night we found Max and a few of his buddies completely stuck in the mud with a borrowed Suburban… one they definitely weren’t supposed to take mudding. To this day, I’m pretty sure they let it get stuck on purpose just so we’d rescue them.

After that night, things took off fast. A couple months later, COVID hit and Max had to head back home to Alaska while I stayed in California. Long distance wasn’t easy, but we made it work, and honestly, it made our relationship even stronger.

When graduation got closer, I decided to take the leap and move to Alaska! Now, after more than three years of living together up north, we’ve built an amazing little life with our two pets—Spud the dog and Bean the cat. We’re so excited to get married and see where life takes us next! Anna

To help you prepare for your trip to Alaska we wanted to provide some recommendations on travel, accommodations, and what to expect for weather.Getting to SitkaSitka is on an island, meaning it’s only accessible by air or sea. The most convenient way to travel is by flying into Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport (SIT). Alaska Airlines offers daily flights from major hubs like Seattle (SEA) and Anchorage (ANC).Where to StaySitka has a variety of lodging options to fit different preferences and budgets. The Aspen Suites Hotel and Southeast Resort (formerly Westmark) are both excellent choices, conveniently located downtown near our venue. You'll also find a number of lodges and vacation rentals that can be booked through sites like Airbnb and Vrbo. Given that our wedding is in the beginning of the tourist season, we highly recommend booking your flights and accommodations as early as possible. For more recommendations or assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out!Preparing for the WeatherApril in Sitka is beautiful but can be unpredictable, so it’s best to pack for all types of weather. The average temperatures range from the mid-30s to the mid-40s Fahrenheit. The key to staying comfortable is layering—think fleece jackets, sweaters, and long-sleeved shirts. Most importantly, be sure to bring a waterproof jacket and water-resistant shoes, as Sitka is known for its frequent rain. We can’t wait to celebrate with all of you in this incredible place!

Things to Do in Sitka

We’re so excited to have everyone joining us in Sitka this April! Since many of you are traveling a long way, we wanted to share some fun things to check out while you’re here. Sitka is small, beautiful, and super easy to explore—perfect for a relaxed wedding weekend. Get Outside Sitka National Historical Park – Really pretty forest trails, lots of totem poles, and a great place for a slow walk and fresh air. Hiking If you’re up for a little adventure, there are tons of trails. Beaver Lake is a favorite, but even the shorter coastal walks are gorgeous. Wildlife Alaska Raptor Center – A rehabilitation center for injured eagles, owls, and other birds of prey. You’ll get to see bald eagles up close—it's awesome. Soak Up Some Local Culture Sheldon Jackson Museum – Small but very cool, especially if you like Native Alaskan history and art.St. Michael’s Cathedral – Right downtown and easy to pop into while you’re exploring. Eat &amp; Wander Downtown has great seafood, coffee spots, and cute local shops. Definitely try the halibut or salmon while you’re here—it's a must!
