The first time Mike saw Anne was at the Water Carnival Water Fights in Detroit Lakes. She was there to cheer on her youngest brother Max, who also had a team in the competition. Mike took a video when he was watching Max's team (the fellow team sponsored by the clinic) and she happened to be in the video when Mike looked back later on. They met each other more officially later that night at Lakeside Tavern when they were all celebrating with people from the clinic and from Detroit Lakes who were mutual friends. Mike asked her out during their first conversation that night.

First photo together, Mike went to visit Anne where she lived in Los Gatos, CA and went on a date to Capitola (near Santa Cruz) at the beach. Mike met Anne's two boys, Layton and Grayson, officially in California also on the trip to visit. Many more trips would follow....
