Annelise and Matthew officially met in Dr. Debra Cook's Honors Anatomy class in 2012, though both had attended George Walton Academy since pre-K. The two spent the first half of the school year competing for asking Dr. Cook the most outrageous questions in Anatomy class, and they finally became a pair when Matthew drew Annelise's name for his rabbit dissection partner. They've been grossing each other out and laughing hysterically ever since.

While on vacation in Hawaii, Annelise and Matthew enjoyed a special oceanside lunch at Orchids in the Halekulani Resort. Later in the day, Matthew took Annelise to Secret Beach in Ko Olina, where the photographer he had hired a year before lay in wait. The two took in an incredible view of the mountains and the ocean before Matthew got down on one knee and Annelise started sobbing uncontrollably.
