The Alamo is a 5-minute walk from the Hilton Palacio del Rio. It is free to take a tour of the Alamo church, but you will need to reserve a time slot. New to the Alamo Plaza is the Phil Collins collection in the Ralston Family Collections and admission tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for children.
Fun Fact - Annelise is the 5th great-granddaughter of one of the Alamo Defenders who paid the ultimate price in the Battle of the Alamo for Texas Independence, Andrew Kent. You can see a promissory note where Andrew Kent purchased shoes days before going to the Alamo in the Ralston Family Collections. When viewing the Cenotaph (large statue in front of the Alamo) you can find his name on the statue.
The Tower of the Americas is about a 10-minute walk from the hotel or a 2–3-minute Uber. The Tower of the Americas was built for the 1968 Worlds Fair just like the wedding block hotel, Hilton Palacio del Rio. The tower is 750-feet high and makes a rotation every hour. If you dine at the restaurant, you will have a rotation while dining. The views are spectacular in every direction. Tickets can be purchased on the website or in person at the tower.
If you would like to dine in the restaurant at the top of the tower you will need to make that reservation in advance on the website.
The Buckhorn Saloon and Museum is a 7 minute walk from the hotel. The Buckhorn Saloon first opened it’s doors in 1881. The Buckhorn Saloon serves food, drinks, and their famous Prickly Pear Margarita. The bar in the Buckhorn Saloon is still the original bar where Theodore Roosevelt recruited Rough Riders. You’ll also notice antlers throughout the saloon and that’s because the original owner allowed his patrons to trade him antlers for drinks.
The Buckhorn Museum is two museums in one. One part of the museum is the collection of antlers the original owner acquired for drinks and the other part is The Texas Rangers museum. The Texas Rangers museum is full of Ranger history, artifacts, and relics dating back to over a century.

The Market Square or "Mexican Market" as the locals call it is a real Mexican Mercado located 5 minutes via Uber from the hotel. The Mexican Market is full of vendors selling art, crafts, jewelry, clothes, and accessories from Mexico and South America. Just like the mercados in Mexico the market is primarily cash and many of the vendors will barter with you. If you enjoy shopping at the mercados in Mexico, you will enjoy shopping at the Mexican Market.
The Mexican Market is home to the legendry Mi Tierra Mexican Restaurant and Panaderia. Mi Tierra is open 24 hours a day and serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, bakery treats and cocktails.
The Mexican Market is a favorite of many local San Antonians.
San Antonio Missions National Historic Park, located 4 miles south of Downtown San Antonio, is the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Texas. The Park is made up of 4 missions, Mission San Jose, Mission Conception, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada. The missions were built in the early 1720’s along the San Antonio River and are still active today. Mission Espada is actually home to Franciscan Monks.
The main visitor center as well as the Mission Park Bicycle Rental Station are located at Mission San Jose. The missions are all within 2 miles from one another and connected by a hike and bike trail. Along the trail you will find quaint restaurants and bars to stop at.

The Briscoe Western Art Musuem is home to one of the greatest collections of Western Art in the world. In this museum you will find wonderful collections ranging from priceless saddles, Texas history, western relics, exquisite western paintings, and Governor Briscoes gubernatorial Lucchese cowboy boots.
The Jack Guenther Pavillion and Sculpture Garden at The Briscoe is where Annelise and Tonys wedding reception will take place and is conveniently located across the river from the hotel. The museum portion will be closed during the wedding reception.
La Villita Historic Village, conveniently located next door to the hotel, is one of the original parts of San Antonio built along the bank of the San Antonio River. La Villita is home to many boutiques, restaurants, art galleries, Little Church of La Villita, and the one and only Arneson River Theatre where Annelise and Tony will be tying the knot!
If you recognize the Arneson River Theatre pictured here, it's probably because you watched Sandra Bullock awkwardly strut her stuff as Miss New Jersey in a bikini in Miss Congeniality on the stage of this very theatre!
San Fernando Cathedral is the oldest continuously running Cathedral in the United States. San Fernando was built in 1731 when Texas was still part of Mexico and San Antonio was known as Presidio de Bexar.
Some interesting facts to note abut San Fernando Cathedral is that the Alamo Defenders are buried in the Cathedral and majority of the sacrament records are in Spanish with some in English and
German as well.
San Fernando Cathedral still holds mass in Spanish and English every Sunday and is a short 3-minute Uber ride from the hotel.
Rio Cruises is a great way to take a tour of the San Antonio Riverwalk. Tours are approximately 35 minutes long and will talk about the history and culture of San Antonio. One of the many points of interest on the tour is the wedding block hotel and the unique construction of the hotel. Fun fact - Annelise works for the company that built the hotel.
One of the three ticketing and boarding kiosks is located less than a minute walk from the hotel.
