If you arrive early and want to see some of what the Atlanta area has to offer, I highly recommend the Georgia Aquarium! With some of the most rare and unusual fish science has discovered, you're sure to have an amazing experience. The aquarium also offers exclusive up-close animal experiences that you can book ahead, including surface swims and deep scuba dives into the Ocean Voyager tank. This exhibit is a 6.3 million gallon tank, one of the world's largest, and features whale sharks, manta rays, wobbegong sharks, schooling fish, and some other shark species. Additionally there are touch tanks, penguins, a dolphin show, and food courts.
Sitting across the Pemberton Place park from the Georgia Aquarium is this wonderful little museum experience. Coca-Cola was founded in Atlanta on May 8, 1886 by Dr. John Stith Pemberton, a pharmacist in the city. The museum features multiple interactive exhibits surrounding the origins of the Coca-Cola company, as well as an exhibit regarding the legendary secret formula. At the end of the tour, you will enter a room of soda machines featuring samples of every Coca-Cola product from around the world. These products are catered to the tastes of the region and its people. If you're feeling brave, make sure you sample the Italian "Beverly" soda before you leave!
If dinosaurs are more your thing, visit Fernbank Museum! They offer multiple permanent exhibits covering dinosaurs, native wildlife, physics and other sciences, as well as a rotating traveling exhibit that changes every few months. Fernbank also has an iMax theatre showing various films, a food court, and nature walk. During the holiday season, the nature walk is filled with Christmas lights and can be visited at night!
During the day, the botanical gardens feature a wide array of man-made art, gorgeous plants, and art made of plants. There is a large bridge suspended through the trees, Chihuly glass sculptures on fountains, and an enormous greenhouse filled with several different biome sections. During the holiday season, the gardens are filled from top to bottom with lights, even the green house! You can participate in any one of several activities, there are some bar stations scattered about the trails, and various different themed sections.
Stone Mountain is a strikingly unique "theme" and national park. An enormous monolithic chunk of granite, essentially a chip from a tectonic plate, sits towering over the park with the world's largest high relief sculpture. There is a park village where you can enjoy shops, food, glass blowing exhibitions, and learn more about the park. You can also either hike the mountain, or, take a cable car to the top. There is an adventure golf course, a full size golf course, a small railroad tour, hiking trails, a dinosaur exhibit hike and fishing. From November through December, the park celebrates Stone Mountain Christmas, where you can enjoy a drone light show, Santa's big flight over the park each night, a musical light forest, and the inaugural "Magical Flight to the North Pole" experience!
If you are looking for something that is quieter and more indoors, the High Museum of Art is for you. Located in downtown Atlanta, the museum was used as the set for the medical drama "The Resident" and boasts thousands of square feet of art exhibits and modern architecture.
Should you just want an afternoon of golf or range time, head to the Bobby Jones Golf Course. Set amongst the stunning homes of Buckhead, you will have a beautiful view of the Atlanta skyline throughout your golf round. The course also offers a pro shop and restaurant on site.
Whether you're a car lover, Formula 1 fan, or adrenaline seeker, the Porsche Experience is an excellent place to visit. You can track-drive any one of Porsche's cars, visit the simulator lab, or do a demonstration lap.
